What's new

Safe walking routes and gathering: the arrow now walks you around mountains, deep water and dangerous mobs instead of pointing in a straight line, and the herbs, ore, fishing pools and beasts for your professions are on your maps.

  • The ForeverDB arrow follows a walking route to the quest you track (or any spot you set). It points at the next turn of the route, never up a mountain or a cliff, and goes round the long way when the straight way would take you past mobs well above your level, elites, packs or an enemy town.
  • When there is no safe way, the arrow says "no safe way" and one chat line names the dangerous area the route has to cross. You can turn the chat line off.
  • The route is drawn on the world map (gold where it's safe, orange and red where it's dangerous, blue where you swim) and as dots on the minimap.
  • The route is planned again when you wander off it, level up or change zone. It uses the Thunder Bluff lifts and the other lifts, and tells you which boat or zeppelin to take to another continent.
  • Settings, Routes and gathering: turn routes on or off, choose how hard to avoid danger, how many levels above you count as dangerous, whether to swim, and whether to draw the lines. "Report a bad route" saves where you are and what's wrong (no names) so we can fix the map.
  • New page in the ForeverDB window: Routes & gathering. The Route view shows the current route: how long it is, about how many minutes, and each dangerous stretch with its mob levels.
  • The Gathering view shows the herbs, ore, fishing pools and beasts to skin in a zone for your professions, coloured by your chance of a skill-up. Tick what you want and press "Start a loop here": the arrow leads you round the spots one after another, along safe routes.
  • Gathering spots are on the world map and the minimap too, for the professions you have. You can show the ones above your skill, hide Classic spots, or hide fishing or skinning.
  • Calm gathering pins: each spot is the herb's, ore's or fish's own item icon (a paw for beasts to skin), small, with no frame or background, under the quest pins and the route. Nearby spots merge into one icon with a white number until you zoom in or click it, at most 30 icons zoomed out and 60 zoomed in (zoomed in, only the spots in view count), spots players saw in Forever first. Herbs and ore share the places, so herbs no longer vanish behind ore. Icons stay the same small size on screen in the small map and the maximized one, and are greyed when your skill is too low. Hover one for plain words: "8 Copper Vein spots here", "needs Mining 1", "you have 50". Nothing shows until you have Herbalism or Mining (then your fishing pools and beasts to skin show too), and only what you can gather now; choose All to see everything. The minimap shows just the 8 nearest within 150 yards, and none while the arrow leads you to a quest. While you follow a gathering loop only its stops show.
  • The map's own filter menu (the button at the top right of the Map & Quest Log) has a ForeverDB section: Gathering spots (Off, My professions, All), Quest route line, My saved quest spots and Quest pins. The same switches are in Settings.
  • The addon now records where you fish and what you catch, and the beasts you skin (which beast, where, its level and what it gave), for foreverdb.net's fishing and skinning maps. Never a name. You can turn both off under Recording.
  • Where it comes from: walkable ground is the WoW Forever client's own terrain (build 1.60.1.70205). Mobs, guards and gathering spawns are Classic data (labelled) until players see them in Forever, so they may differ in Forever. Zephras Isle has no mob data yet. Gathering colours and the skinning skill follow Classic's rule: ForeverDB's assumption.
  • Caves and buildings: the route takes you to the entrance, then the arrow points straight.
  • Inside cities the route follows the streets and gates: leaving Stormwind by the Valley of Heroes, Orgrimmar by its gate. Your own capital and towns guarded by your faction (Stormwind, Southshore, Darkshire...) no longer count as dangerous for you.
  • Going to another continent, the route picks the boat or zeppelin whose landing is nearest where you're going (Stormwind to Theramore takes the Menethil boat, not the one to Auberdine).
  • One pin per gathering spot: where copper, tin and silver (or several herbs) take turns at one spot, the pin shows the best one for your skill and lists the others when you hover it. Zones that are new in WoW Forever only show the spots players found there.
  • The 3D arrow: ForeverDB's own gold arrow, which turns on the ground as you turn, glows green ahead, yellow at the side and red behind, shows the time to get there, and points to your corpse when you're a ghost. You can switch back to the flat arrow and change its size, glow and sound in Settings, Quest helper.
  • The full quest guide beside the map: a dark ForeverDB pane on the right of the Map & Quest Log, as tall as the map, with everything about the quest open in the details (or the one you track): the summary, the quest text, every step with an Arrow button and a progress bar, the rewards against your gear, the chain, players' tips, your own notes and the quest's link. It has its own scroll, follows the quest you click in the log, the tracker or on the map, and its Full guide button opens the same guide in the ForeverDB window. A chain quest's Guide button shows that quest in the pane, even with the details open, and Back returns. Its X folds it into a small ForeverDB tab on the map's edge. When the map is maximised it sits inside the map's right edge, under the map's own buttons (or stays folded, if you choose). Settings, Quest helper: turn it off, change its width, and choose whether it opens with the map.
  • A cleaner layout for the guide, in the pane and in the ForeverDB window: the level, zone, side and quest ID as small boxes that never break across lines and never sit alone on a row when they can share one, a thin line under each heading with where its facts come from at the right, the Arrow buttons all the same size in one column on the right, and progress bars the full width under each objective. A line from somewhere else than its section ends with a small * and the note under the section says what it means.
  • My notes: write your own note on any quest (up to 500 characters). Notes are saved for your whole account, so all your characters see them. "Save this spot" records where you stand (with what it is: a cave, an entrance, a path up, mobs, danger...), up to 10 per quest, listed with an Arrow button and shown as small green pins on the world map and the minimap for the quests in your log.
  • Your saved spots (just the map, the coordinates and what kind of spot) are uploaded with the addon's data as hints for that quest, to help other players, but only for quests the addon has seen you meet in WoW Forever; foreverdb.net shows a spot once two players have saved it. A spot saved inside a cave or a town is kept on the zone's map. Turn it off under Recording. Your note's text is never uploaded unless you tick "Share this note as a tip" on it: then it goes to foreverdb.net's tips for that quest, checked by an admin before it shows, never with your name. Edit it while it waits and the same tip gets the new text; untick it and a tip still waiting is withdrawn at your next upload.
  • The Quest | Guide switch at the top of the quest details is still there for those who like it, but off by default now (Settings, Quest helper, "Also a Quest | Guide switch"). Guide shows ForeverDB's guide in place of Blizzard's text, on its own parchment with its own scroll; Quest brings Blizzard's text back. The buttons move out of the way of Blizzard's own buttons (Back, Show Map) when they would cover one. A quest ForeverDB has no data for says "Not in ForeverDB yet".
  • The route now shows on the world map too (before, it only showed on the minimap on WoW Forever 1.60.1). It is drawn as dots along the way, like the minimap's, and it is drawn again when you zoom or change the map. Type /fdb routecheck with the map open to see what the map got.
  • A short welcome the first time you log in with this version: what ForeverDB does, tick the features you want (quest guide pane, routes on the map and minimap, gathering pins, rotation assistant, upgrades on tooltips), the optional ForeverDB Uploader and an optional free foreverdb.net account. Back, Next and Skip; it waits until the loading screen has settled and never shows in combat. See it again from the About page, Settings > General, or /fdb setup. It only saves that you've finished or skipped it, so if you log out part way it comes back next time.
  • The ForeverDB Uploader page says plainly that the app is optional: what works without it and what it adds, with the download link and foreverdb.net in copy boxes at the top.
  • Fewer false "danger" warnings while levelling through the starting zones and the ones after them (up to level 19): a group of normal mobs one or two levels above you no longer counts as dangerous (the Vile Familiars in the Valley of Trials made a level 4 orc's arrow say "danger"). Groups 3 or more levels above you, elites, rares well above you and enemy guards still do. From level 20 a group 2 levels above you still warns.
  • A newer ForeverDB? The addon tells you: one quiet line in your chat window (once a session) and a line on the Uploader and About pages. It learns about a new version from the daily data and from other ForeverDB users in your guild or group: the addon shares only its own version number with them in hidden addon messages, never in chat, and keeps no names. If you installed from CurseForge or Wago it says your app will offer it; otherwise it points you to foreverdb.net/addon. Turn it off in Settings, General, "Tell me when a newer ForeverDB is out".
  • Privacy fix: when the addon records a quest's text, your character's name is put back to $N (as the game writes it), so an uploaded quest never says who you are. Only your name, and never where it is part of the quest's own words: a character called Kobold leaves "Kill 10 Kobold Vermin" alone.
  • The addon now also records the price a vendor pays for an item you loot, so foreverdb.net can check its prices against WoW Forever.
  • Size: the route and gathering data add about 1.6 MB to the addon. Nothing is unpacked until you set the arrow; then only the continent you are on is, a little each frame, using about 4.5 to 5 MB of memory while you are there.
