ForeverGear — Project Summary

ForeverGear is an independent community project for World of Warcraft: Forever, combining a website gear planner with an in-game companion addon. It helps players plan upgrades, find equipment, navigate Azeroth, and manage everyday adventuring tasks.

The website

Players import their character using a code copied from the addon, or start with an example character. The planner provides:

• A character sheet with an interactive 3D equipment preview.
• Equipped, Owned, and Chase views for comparing current gear, available inventory, and future upgrades.
• Gear recommendations based on level, class, playstyle, and adjustable stat priorities.
• Best-owned-set suggestions, slot comparisons, top upgrades, and a weighted Gear Score.
• Item sources covering recorded quests, bosses, dungeons, raids, crafting, vendors, and PvP rewards.
• Wishlists that can be copied back into the addon.
• Saved plans, locked equipment slots, undo, and restoration of uploaded gear.
• Imported bags, bank snapshots, talents, reputation, professions, and PvP information where available.
• Class-inspired light and dark themes with cute animated companions.

The addon

The addon brings planning tools and quality-of-life features into the game through a movable, collapsible Companion Bar and a parchment-style Adventure Journal.

• Wishlist: Track desired equipment, inspect recorded sources, and pin available destinations.
• Dungeons: Browse recommended level brackets, select illustrated bosses, inspect recorded loot, and preview equipment on your character. Entering a known dungeon selects it automatically.
• Training: See unlearned spells and ranks, filter by level, and receive reminders about newly available training.
• Characters: Review locally saved snapshots of characters you have logged into.
• GPS: Follow dungeon entrances, wishlist destinations, custom coordinates, or manually drawn objective areas. Save and cycle through up to 25 destinations, add map pins with Ctrl-click, and automatically receive corpse guidance after death.
• Convenience tools: Optional combined bags, protected junk selling, automatic repairs with spending limits, and configurable key bindings.
• Personalization: Class companions, themes, volume, transparency, and separate companion and bar size controls.
• Companion personality: Welcome messages, jokes, tips, supportive death messages, and celebrations for leveling and reported auction sales. Speech appears in bubbles and local chat; celebrations trigger a small dance.

How the two work together

Export a character from WoW, paste it into the website, compare upgrades, then copy a wishlist back into the addon. Transfers are manual; the addon does not automatically connect to the website.

Website plans remain in browser storage. Addon preferences and character snapshots remain on the player’s computer. Larger reference datasets load when needed to reduce startup work.

Gear rankings estimate weighted equipment value rather than simulated damage. Item sources use a beta snapshot, saved character information can become outdated, and GPS provides straight-line guidance rather than obstacle-aware routing.
