What's new
Changelog
0.7.0 · 2026-10-20
- Pet abilities with Blizzard's tuning of October 15 (beta development notes, posted on Oct 16; already in client 1.60.1.70450): Sonic Blast (bat) now adds 30% casting time for 20 s, 1 min cooldown (was 60% for 30 s, 30 s); Dismember (crocolisk) cuts healing by 25% for 6 s, 15 s cooldown (was 50% for 10 s, 6 s); Mine! (bird of prey) disarms for 3 s, 1.5 min cooldown (was 4 s, 1 min). Damage and focus cost unchanged. All 124 ability ranks of the addon were checked one by one against the client: these are the only ones that changed.
- Furious Howl (wolf) reaches the whole raid: the client now says "party or raid members" (Blizzard did not list it in the notes; the numbers are the same). The PvE tag «Group buff» keeps working with the new text.
- Official Spanish and Chinese texts for Sonic Blast, Trickster's Dance and Thunderstomp rank 4 (the addon carried its own translation until the client had them).
- Your wishlist on your minimap: a mark on each place where a beast of your wishlist has been seen (the same places as the addon's map: yours, the other players' and the database). It is where the beast was seen, not where it is now. Only the places within the minimap's reach show, on a round or square minimap, still or turning with you. Hover a mark for the beast, how many times it was seen there and when; click it for its page; right-click it for a waypoint. None inside dungeons, raids or battlegrounds, nor in combat. Switch: Wishlist tab > «Show on the minimap» (on by default).
- No more little boxes in Spanish: the game draws each line with one font, and a Korean or Chinese player name next to Spanish words made it pick the Korean or Chinese font for the whole line, which has no ñ, ¿, ¡, « » or accents (boxes). The name now goes in its own text, with the font of its alphabet, in the Community feed, the minimap button ("Last:") and the alerts ("by <name>"). Where a line still mixes them (a beast known only by a Chinese name), the Spanish letters lose their marks instead of turning into boxes. Settings > Diagnostics has a letters test: Latin, Korean, Chinese and Cyrillic, each with the game's font for it.
- Community data updated: 604 beasts and 6,564 places from 418 players, up to 2026-10-17 (Azeroth is 90% mapped).
- Tests: 995 checks (minimap marks with a round, square and turning minimap; fonts; the tuned abilities).
render_ui.pydraws Korean too.
0.6.0 · 2026-10-13
- Tames are recorded in Forever at last. Forever gives every hunter pet the same generic creature (165189) and a GUID that only tells the stable slot, so a new pet in a slot used before looked like the old one, and no tame was ever counted. Now a tame is recognised from your Tame Beast cast and the new pet (its name, its family, or a new pet after the cast). "Tame recorded" shows in your chat, the abilities of the new pet are read and shared, and the Community counter (the sum of every hunter's tames, plus how many different beasts) goes up for everybody.
- /fb opens the addon (asked by a player). It is only taken when no other addon uses it (Fishing Buddy does, for one);
/bestiaryalways works. - Your version is out of date: when two players with the addon already use a newer version than yours (every addon says hello with its version), a window asks you to update, once a day for that version, never in combat or inside an instance. Players still on 0.5.0 or older get the chat line their version already had.
- Mailbox inside the addon, the same as Forever Duels: «Report your bug» and «Give us your feedback» at the top right of every page. Reports travel hidden between the addons (never through the chat, no internet, no email) with the addon version, client, class, level, page and last steps; your character name only if you tick it. Whoever looks after the addon turns on «Collect everybody's» (Settings > Mailbox) and gets everything in the saved file (ForeverBestiaryReports, as plain lines).
- Error collector (Settings > Diagnostics): errors and health warnings are kept with where they happened, counted, and shared without names, so they can be fixed. When the game blocks something of the addon (the popup that offers to disable it), the blocked function is recorded. A health check runs after login, and the diagnostics list what the game client offers to the addon.
- Beta notice the first time you open the addon each day, and a What is new window after each update (Settings > What is new shows it again), in your language.
- Database checked against the Forever client (Wowhead Forever and foreverdb.net, client 1.60.1.70338): 681 beasts (76 more), all with their NPC ID but one (Vuldren Stalker), and their official names in English, Spanish (Spain) and Simplified Chinese. Rarity and levels from the game: Mine Spider and Mother Fang are elite; Vulgara the Insatiable is an elite wolf that, tamed, attacks every 1.5 s (Faster Attack III). Searing Lava Spider and Rabid Forest Wolf carry their Forever names.
- Abilities rank by rank from the client, with names and texts in your language everywhere (beast pages, tooltips, ability pages, confirmed abilities): Sonic Blast for bats (5 ranks from pet level 12), Furious Howl 40% weaker, new values for Charge and Demoralizing Screech, Growl and Cower with all their ranks. 9 ranks too high for their beast are no longer listed (Blizzard fixed them on Oct 1). Searching works in your language too:
Mordedura 6,撕咬 6(with or without the space). - Tame Beast only works up to your own level (Blizzard, Sep 24): "Tameable now" and "Only tameable now" follow it.
- Attack speed: the beast's own passive (Faster or Slower Attack) wins over a speed measured on the wild beast, and the fastest known beast of each family is worked out from it (bats now have one at 1.0 s).
- Simplified Chinese (zhCN): the whole interface, the guide and the changelog; Chinese class names, distances in 码 (yards), Chinese commands (
/fb 地图,/fb 设置...). Traditional Chinese clients use it too. The PvP and PvE page titles add what they mean in Chinese; the menu keeps PvP and PvE, as the Chinese client does. - Names in your language: with the addon in your client's language, the name your game gives each beast wins (asked to the game by its NPC number, once, out of combat); the English name shows under it. Fonts for every alphabet: Chinese, Korean or Cyrillic names no longer show as boxes.
- Zone and map names follow the addon's language (English, Spanish or Chinese), whatever the language of your game. Before, the maps came with the game's names: an English game showed them in English with the addon in Spanish (and older versions had kept Spanish names for an English game). A map is recognised by its name in any of the three languages or by its map number.
- Map: under the zones, the dungeons, raids and battlegrounds where beasts live, each part with its title. Picking one lists its beasts (the game hides positions inside).
- PvP votes: a new reason, «Slows casting», for the bat's Sonic Blast (+60% casting time for 30 s). The family comparator shows it too.
- 3D models switch (Settings and the Beasts page), for slower computers: the family icon shows instead.
- The chat is touched less: the addon only filters the "joined channel" notices of its own hidden channel. Before, its filter ran on every message of every channel, the prime suspect of the "blocked action" popups seen in busy zones (Westfall, Darkshore). The hidden channel is taken out of the chat windows once per session, never in combat or in an instance.
- Discoveries nobody heard are sent again: what you discover while no other player with the addon is online is kept (up to 300, for 30 days) and sent again, a few records at a time, as soon as another player shows up, in this session or a later one. Community shows how many are waiting.
- Families: the source line names where each piece comes from (bonuses and diet: beta client 1.60.1.69913; abilities: client 1.60.1.70338).
- Community data updated: 596 beasts and 6,313 places from 372 players, up to 2026-10-12 (Azeroth is 88% mapped).
- Tests: 957 checks (Chinese included).
render_ui.pydraws Chinese with a CJK font and wraps it by character.
0.5.0 · 2026-09-29
- Catch-up when you log in: your addon asks the players online for what was shared while you were away (the first time, since the data of your version). One player who has it sends it bit by bit (about 100 places a minute), in the moments when nothing else is being sent, without filling your discovery feed; whoever lacks the same data gets it too. A long catch-up comes in parts of up to 800 records: the same player goes on with the rest, and no place is sent twice. Community shows how it goes, and one notice tells you what arrived. Only first-hand data travels (places, levels, speeds, names, 3D models, and the sender's own tames and "the game told me" results): nothing is ever confirmed on someone else's word. Nothing is sent in combat or instances. Players still on 0.4.0 or older neither ask nor answer.
- Your own votes and likes no longer count twice (they did in 0.4.0): Forever does not always give addons your realm, so your own messages, when they came back to you, were counted as another hunter's (two votes, two likes, and you as one of the "other players"). Your messages are now recognised, and the duplicates already stored (votes, likes, reporters, tames, confirmations) are merged by themselves when you log in.
- Sorting in Beasts: a dropdown ("Sort: Level") to choose level, name, attack speed, last seen or likes, and an arrow next to it for ascending or descending. Beasts without that value (no level, no speed, never seen) always go last. When nobody has liked those beasts yet, sorting by likes says so (they are then sorted by level).
- Wishlist filter in Beasts: only the beasts you marked with the star, combined with any other filter.
- Alert for the beasts you like (optional, off by default): the same alert as for your wishlist. Only your own star and your own heart count: other hunters' likes, and what other players see anywhere, never alert you.
- Share without my name (Settings): what you find is shared as always, but other players see it as found by "a hunter" (players still on 0.4.0 or older see the name). Recording and sharing are now always on: their switches, and the hidden channel one, are gone from Settings, because that is how the map fills. If you had turned sharing off in an older version, you now share without your name.
- Seven beasts no longer show "[Deprecated for 4.x]" before their Spanish name (a tag of the source database).
- Guide texts updated (alerts and privacy).
- Community data updated: 215 beasts and 1,087 places from 61 players, up to 2026-09-29 (Azeroth is 36% mapped).
0.4.0 · 2026-09-29
- Wishlist (star), private: mark any beast with the star on its card or its page. New Wishlist tab: Wished lists them closest first (distance, zone, last seen, Waypoint and Map buttons) and you get an alert when one is near you.
- Collection (inside Wishlist): your pets now, character by character (active pets when you log in, the stable when you visit the stable master), how many of each family you have had, and They have been yours: every beast tamed or listed as your pet, with the character and the date.
- Likes (heart), public: every hunter with the addon sees how many hunters like a beast (your name is not stored: one like per player, counted with a hash). Beasts can be sorted by Most liked.
- PvP tab: vote which family you take against each class, with an optional reason (Cuts healing, Roots, Slows, Disarms, Holds on, Damage, Keeps up). One vote per class, changeable at any time. Each class card shows the community's pick, its percentage, the main reason and the runner-up; ties (also between three or more families) are shown as ties. Below, a comparator of the families from Forever client data (damage, armour, health, fastest beast, special abilities and what they do), with filters and sorting.
- PvE tab: the same vote for five situations (Leveling, Solo elites, Farming, Dungeons, Raids) with PvE reasons (Holds on, Damage, Area damage, Group buff, Lowers armor, Lowers attack power, Keeps up).
- Azeroth mapped: the Map tab shows how much of Azeroth players have mapped (database beasts outside dungeons with a place recorded by players with the addon) and, zone by zone, a percentage with a bar. The beta data does not count.
- Wanted: a list in the Map tab (and a filter in Beasts) with the database beasts nobody has mapped yet, the closest first. The Not mapped yet chip shows only those in the zone you are looking at.
- To confirm: beasts players find that are not in the database stay out of the lists, the map, "Near me" and the alerts until they are confirmed. They wait in Beasts > To confirm, clearly marked TO CONFIRM. To confirm one you do not need to keep it: start Tame Beast on it and cancel; if the game lets the cast start, it is tameable and it is confirmed for everyone. If the game's own tooltip (Beast Lore) says whether it is tameable, that counts too. They are marked NOT TAMEABLE only when the game itself answered "not tameable" to a Tame Beast (yours, or two different hunters'); other failures (too high level, a pet already out...) never mark anything. Database beasts are never hidden: they only get a note on their page. A tame or an accepted Tame Beast always confirms a beast.
- 3D models of new beasts: when you see a beast that is in no database, the addon reads its model ID from the game and shares it, so everyone sees it in 3D even if their game has never shown it to them.
- Rare alerts, only yours: a rare beast alerts you when it shows on your minimap, its nameplate appears, or you mouse over or target it. Rares found by other players no longer alert you: they only fill the map. Dead rares and beasts still to confirm do not alert (unless they are in your wishlist). Separate switches for rares, wishlist beasts and the sound.
- Tame recording fixed: tames are detected from the Tame Beast cast and the game's pet list, not from the pet's GUID. Interrupted tames and pets you already had no longer count.
- Community data inside the addon: each version brings what players had shared until then (this one: 212 beasts and 1,066 places from 55 players, up to 2026-09-29: Azeroth is 35% mapped), merged once into your data. No player names are included.
- Database beasts without an NPC ID take it from players' records (same name and family, plus level and zone, or two players): they get their places and no longer show twice.
- The one NPC that was twice in the data (Moss Stalker) now counts once: 605 beasts.
- Beast names cut in the middle of a letter by older versions are repaired.
- The addon adds nothing to other players' tooltips, and nothing is ever posted to chat channels or whispers: sharing only uses hidden addon messages. Notices that only you see (such as "Tame recorded") stay.
0.3.0 · 2026-09-26
- Opens on Families. The "new" and "renamed" marks and every comparison with Classic are gone: Forever is treated as its own game. Beasts not confirmed by players yet are marked "Not confirmed in Forever yet".
- Near me: sorts the families by their closest beast to you (distance, zone and level on each card) and, inside a family, lists the closest beasts first with Waypoint and Map buttons. Optional "Only tameable now" filter. Distances in metres on Spanish clients, yards on English ones; "in your zone" / "~" when only the zone is known. It refreshes every 3 s while you move, never under the mouse.
- Map with zoom: mouse wheel zooms towards the cursor (x1 to x8), drag to move, +/- buttons, "Fit" and "Centre on me". New data arriving no longer resets your zoom. "Map" button on Families opens your zone.
- Export and import: exports are compressed with the game's own zlib (much shorter) and come out already selected, so Ctrl+C is enough. Import is just Ctrl+V: it imports by itself. Cut or damaged texts are rejected. (Addons cannot copy to the clipboard by themselves: that function is reserved to Blizzard's interface.)
- Is sharing working? line in Community: it checks whether your addon messages leave the game and whether other players' arrive (Forever flags addon messages as restricted; this tells you if that stops the sharing).
- Minimap icon button always visible at the bottom left: it removes the icon (with a window that reminds you to open the addon with /bestiary or /bestiario) and puts it back.
/beastiaryworks too. - Forever-safe: the addon never calls ReloadUI (protected in Forever; a hint says to type /reload) nor CopyToClipboard.
0.2.0 · 2026-09-26

- Own map with zone art and pins; the world map is never touched.
- Minimap button shown by default: left-click opens, right-click options, Shift + drag moves it. Addon compartment entry and key binding.
