For the Journey
Your adventure, remembered. For the Journey takes a screenshot at the big moments of your character's story, writes them up in a diary you can flip through, and lets you browse the whole journey - pictures included - on a web page.
Made by Rex, for WoW Forever (Classic+). WoW Forever has no achievement system, so this addon gives your milestones the recognition they deserve.
Beta note: during the beta, Blizzard does not allow character data to be kept between beta resets. Your diary, stats and history are saved normally and survive logouts and reloads, but they will be cleared if the beta wipes your character.
Automatic milestone screenshots
A screenshot is taken the moment it happens. Every one can be switched on or off:
- Level-ups
- Deaths
- Boss and rare kills - open-world rares and dungeon/raid bosses
- New zones discovered (or every zone you enter, if you prefer)
- Epic or better loot
- A profession reaching its maximum skill
- Reaching Exalted with a faction
- Gold milestones - 1g, 10g, 50g, 100g, all the way up to 100,000g
- Near-death saves - surviving at 10% health or less
- Duel wins
An optional "Milestone Reached!" banner pops up alongside each screenshot, like an achievement toast.
The Journey Diary
A real diary, written for you as you play. It looks like a leather-bound book with a parchment page and is named after your character - "Thrallbane's Journey Diary".
- One page per day. Turn through your history with the Earlier / Later buttons.
- Each page shows how long you played, your level and where you travelled, and everything that changed with the new totals - for example "Kills +38 (447 total); Quests +17 (59 total); Mining skill +2 (now 65)".
- Notable moments are written up in a short diary style: level-ups, boss kills, new places, epic finds and more.
- A Money Ledger at the bottom of every page shows your purse at the start of the day, what you earned and spent (with the game's gold, silver and copper coins), and your purse now.
- A day with nothing new gets no page.
More pages in the book
Bookmark tabs on the side of the diary open:
- Calendar - a month view where days you played are shaded darker the longer you played. Click a day to open its page.
- Records - your best days (kills, quests, gold, deaths, time played), your longest session and play streak, and the game's own personal bests. Beat one and that day's page says "New record!"
- Firsts - the first time you levelled, died, handed in a quest, slew a boss, took a flight, rode a mount, entered a dungeon and more.
- Bestiary - every type of creature you've seen fall, plus the bosses and rares you've slain and where.
When you die, the diary also adds a (usually funny) line about what killed you - falling, drowning, fire and lava, and so on.
Journey Viewer - your adventure on a web page
Open your save file and your Screenshots folder in the free Journey Viewer and your whole journey comes alive:
- A timeline of every milestone next to the screenshot taken at that moment
- Your diary pages laid out like the book, with the money ledger and that day's pictures
- A calendar of the days you played, records, firsts, a bestiary and a screenshot gallery
- A Horde or Alliance look - it picks yours automatically
Each milestone is saved with the exact time it happened, so screenshots line up with the right moment. Everything is read inside your own browser. Nothing is uploaded.
How to use it: log out or /reload so the game writes your save file, then open ForTheJourney.lua from your character's SavedVariables folder in the viewer and add your Screenshots folder. The page has step-by-step help for finding both. (Exact screenshot matching needs addon version 1.33 or newer.)
Stats and recaps
- Lifetime Stats - kills, killing blows, deaths and your most dangerous zone, cause of death, quests, hearthstones, flights, jumps, fish caught, ore mined, creatures skinned, herbs gathered, gold earned and spent, profession skills and more.
- Game Statistics - pulls in the numbers from your character sheet's Statistics tab (where the client shares them), so totals include everything you did before installing the addon.
- Session Recap - a summary card when you log out, and again for your last session when you next log in.
- Session History - your recent play sessions, remembered separately for each character.
Using it
Open everything from the minimap button (a camera shutter), or type /journey.
/journey- open the options window/journey diary- open your Journey Diary/journey calendar,/journey records,/journey firsts,/journey bestiary- open those pages of the diary/journey lifetime- open Lifetime Stats/journey gamestats- show the game's own statistics/journey recap- show the session recap (/journey recap lastfor the previous session)/journey sessions- list recent play sessions/journey status- show what's switched on or off/journey data- check that your saved data loaded correctly/journey test- take a test screenshot
Every trigger, the banner, the diary and the recap can be switched on or off in the options window.
Good to know
- Screenshots are saved in your normal WoW
Screenshotsfolder. - Settings are shared across your account. Progress, stats and diaries are kept separately for each character, with an automatic backup.
- Firsts, the bestiary and records count from the day you install the addon. The game's own statistics are used to mark things you had already done before.
- No other addons or libraries are needed.
Feedback and ideas are very welcome - leave a comment!
