# Footnotes
**Your character's travel journal. Only the moments that matter.**
Footnotes quietly keeps a diary of your adventure, one page per day, written in the first person as if your character were holding the pen. Your first trip into the Deadmines, the night your group wiped three times on the same boss, the epic that finally dropped, the day you hit level 40 and started dreaming of a mount.
And just as important: **it knows what to leave out.** Your 40th Deadmines run at level 60 to farm an item will never make it into the book.
---
## A page from the journal
> *For the first time, I set foot in the Deadmines with Thrall from the guild, joined by Jaina and Bob. Things got rough: we wiped once before seeing it through. We defeated 7 foes, among them Edwin VanCleef and Cookie. The expedition lasted an hour and a half. I came out with [Cruel Barb]. I'm not letting go of it anytime soon.*
Every entry is built from what actually happened: who you were with (guildmates or strangers), how many times the group fell, how long it took, which bosses went down and what you looted.
---
## What gets written down
- **Dungeons and raids worth remembering:** your first visit, runs with wipes and deaths, long expeditions, raids.
- **Level milestones:** every 5 levels, and the level cap.
- **Rare and epic finds** out in the world.
- **New zones**, when the journal has followed your character from the start.
- **Your own notes**, on any day of the journal.
## What gets left out
- **Grey content.** If a dungeon no longer gives you experience, the run isn't written down, unless an epic drops.
- **Repeated farm runs.** The same dungeon for the 4th time with nothing special happening? Skipped.
- **Zoning in and out** without killing a boss.
Want a chattier or a pickier journal? Adjust one threshold with `/footnotes threshold 25` (default 35). Turn on `/footnotes debug` to see why a moment was kept or skipped.
---
## Features
- **The book:** a parchment journal with one page per day, the date at the top and the time of each moment.
- **Fully editable:** rewrite any page, add a detail, fix a name, or tear out a page you don't want. "Restore original" brings back the journal's own words.
- **Notes on any day:** remembered something about yesterday's run? Go back to yesterday's page and add it there.
- **Minimap button:** left-click to open the journal, right-click to change its language, drag to move it.
- **Stays with your character:** everything is saved per character, nothing is sent anywhere.
- **Lightweight:** it only listens to a handful of game events.
## 10 languages
English, Français, Deutsch, Español, Português, Italiano, Русский, 한국어, 简体中文, 繁體中文.
The journal follows your game language by default. If you play with an English client but would rather read your story in your own language, pick it from the minimap button or with `/footnotes language fr`. The whole journal, past pages included, is rewritten in the new language. Pages you edited by hand keep your own words.
Place, boss and item names always come from your game client.
---
## Supported versions
- **WoW: Forever** (main target)
- **Classic Era**
- **Retail** (works, but the "grey content" filter is designed for classic-style levelling)
One download for all versions: the game picks the right file on its own.

## Feedback
This is the first release. If the journal wrote down something boring, skipped a moment you cared about, or a sentence sounds odd in your language, please leave a comment. Native speakers are very welcome to suggest better wording, especially for Korean, Chinese and Russian.
