What's new

FlashHUD 1.40.2 — Wheels, race borders and spec layouts

The 1.40 wheel update and its follow-up fixes, collected into one package. This changelog covers the additions since 1.39.19.

New: action wheels

  • Added a Wheels settings tab with Tracking, Aspect and Custom wheels.
  • Tracking automatically includes learned Hunter tracking, Find Herbs, Find Minerals, Find Fish and Dwarf Find Treasure. Other supported class abilities include Druid Track Humanoids, Sense Demons and Sense Undead, when learned.
  • Aspect automatically includes learned supported Aspects. Tracking/Aspect refresh as abilities and ranks are learned. Choices you manually remove stay removed until restored.
  • Every wheel can be customized with spells, items, active pet abilities, saved macros and action-bar actions. Drag entries from the spellbook or supported action sources, or enter an ID/reference in the editor.
  • Add more independent custom wheels with the + at the right of the subtabs. Each wheel has its own name, contents, enable switch, appearance and shortcut.
  • Wheels hold up to 64 actions, grow as entries are added and use extra rings for larger collections. Icons fill opposing pairs, starting north and south, while the optional opening animation sweeps clockwise from north.
  • New/reset wheels default to holding their FlashHUD shortcut to open and releasing it to close. Turn Hold off for press-to-toggle. Existing saved hold/toggle choices are preserved.
  • Drag a wheel's launcher icon onto an action bar to create/reuse its native macro launcher. Bar launchers use toggle behaviour. FlashHUD shortcuts have separate bind/reset controls.
  • Reassigning a wheel shortcut through the game or a supported bar-addon binding releases FlashHUD's wheel assignment. Resetting a shortcut restores its displaced normal action where applicable.
  • Circular backgrounds offer woven leather, theme artwork or plain dark. The centre is part of the same background; its invisible drop/cancel target remains usable.
  • Theme artwork follows the current menu theme, including an Orc menu selected on an Elf character. Separate wheel-border choices remain independent of the background.
  • Compact subtabs show every wheel in one row. Long tab/action labels end in …; tooltips retain full names. Renaming keeps the wheel's saved identity and launcher intact.
  • Right-click any wheel subtab to export only that wheel. Imports preserve the other wheels and settings; character shortcuts are excluded from sharing.
  • Extra wheels can be deleted from their right-click menu after confirmation. Tracking, Aspect and the first Custom are protected. Deleted launcher identities are not reused for unrelated new wheels.
  • Restore contents and full-subtab reset ask for confirmation. Tracking/Aspect return to their learned built-ins; Custom wheels reset empty. Shortcut reset remains separate.
  • Undo button, Ctrl+Z and Alt+Z recover wheel edits while the editor is open. Deletion undo restores the wheel's contents/settings; its released shortcut must be rebound. Undo history is session-local and does not survive reload or profile changes.
  • The radial interaction was inspired by OPie.

Race artwork and clearer editing borders

  • Added illustrated editing borders for Night Elf, Orc, Dwarf, Tauren, Human and Troll themes: leaves/vines, skulls/iron, stone/frost, hide/horn, lion/gold and tusks/feathers.
  • General > Font and borders offers theme-following borders, a separate race choice or the classic yellow outline. Settings are remembered per menu theme.
  • Border artwork scales down for small displays, retains detail on large HUDs and lightens nearby facing edges to reduce clutter. Duplicate overlays avoid drawing the same border twice.
  • Outline bounds include visible text/icons extending beyond the main frame. Artwork sits outside the content; Hawk labels reserve space beside their timers.
  • Inactive displays have tinted/desaturated art, a thin contrasting outline and an INACTIVE label. Colours now vary by theme: Orc uses blue; Dwarf orange; Tauren cyan; Human violet; Troll pink; Night Elf red. Active displays retain their race artwork.
  • Live castbar artwork is unchanged by this update.

Spec detection and independent HUD settings

  • BM, MM and Survival save HUD display settings and visibility alongside their existing layout geometry and cooldown rows. For example, Hawk can be hidden in Survival and enabled in BM.
  • Existing saved positions are retained. Older layouts that never stored visibility use the current settings as their starting point; set your preferred visibility once in each spec.
  • Improved automatic detection after talent resets, spell learning and spec changes, with delayed rechecks and combat deferral.
  • Added a learned talent-spell fallback for cases such as learning Counterattack while talent summaries still report BM. Mixed-tree signature talents defer to allocated talent points.
  • A zero-entry talent API no longer prevents reading populated talent-tab totals. Genuine talent learning can release a manual preview that began before talent data became readable.
  • Automatic switching still respects the Auto setting. Manual selection remains available, and Follow current talents resumes automatic selection immediately.

Settings and fixes

  • Renamed General's Appearance subtab to Font and borders.
  • Corrected the secure wheel handler's invalid pre-handler argument.
  • Removed minimap service filters such as quests/vendors/auction entries from the ability-based Tracking defaults.
  • Added support for higher learned spell ranks and persistent manual default removals.
  • Added character-safe shortcut transfer, restoration and rollback handling across additional wheels and existing pet/trinket buttons.
  • Changed main-menu Escape handling so opening the Blizzard spellbook does not close FlashHUD through the special-window list. Added native-window focus handling to allow spellbook dragging alongside FlashHUD.
  • Wheel undo yields to normal text editing when a text field has focus, and movement undo resumes outside the wheel editor.
  • Existing paired-icon changes from 1.39.19 and earlier features remain included.

Updating and useful notes

Replace the old FlashHUD addon folder with this complete package. Keep WTF/SavedVariables intact; no profile reset is required. Open /fd for settings.

WoW Forever is a beta client. Actual ability availability, secure actions, respec timing and third-party window/binding interactions can vary by client build. This package has passed local regression checks; the latest BM-to-Survival detection change still needs an in-game retest.

Summon Hawk timers remain cast-based estimates. Range values are approximate. Share bug reports with version 1.40.1, reproduction steps and the complete Lua error where available.
