Description

English, Please!

Tired of Channels and Who lists full of messages and names you can't read, type, or remember? English, Please! maintains English consistency in Azeroth without cutting you off from other players.

Features

Hide non-English messages

  • Filters chat by writing system: Cyrillic, Chinese/Kanji, Japanese, Korean, Greek, Arabic, Hebrew, Thai, accented letters, emoji and more. Each can be switched on or off.
  • Catches languages written in plain letters (Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Polish, Dutch, Turkish, Russian in Latin letters) using common words.
  • Ignores words English speakers use too (hola, merci, ciao…), so English chat isn't hidden.
  • Item and quest links don't count against a message, and are shown with your game's English names.
  • Hidden Messages log shows what was hidden, who sent it and why.
  • Options GUI: adjust settings easily via /ep or from Options -> AddOns -> "English, Please!"

Placeholder names

  • Players with non-English names get a lore-friendly English name based on race and gender, e.g. Brogan Flamehammer for a male Dwarf.
  • Each player keeps the same name and no two players share one.
  • Hundreds of names per race.
  • Accented letters in names are unaffected by default (customizable) due to many players using them for taken names e.g. "Toby Túrner".
  • A marker (*) shows which names are placeholders (customizable).

Works everywhere names appear

  • Chat, the Looking For Group Who List, tooltips, target/focus/party/raid frames, nameplates and right-click menus.
  • Mail: inbox and open-mail sender names, and name suggestions (autocomplete) in chat and mail.
  • Optional overhead names using name-only friendly nameplates.

Communication-friendly

  • Whisper, invite and right-click always reach the real player.
  • /w Brogan Flamehammer whispers the actual player behind the placeholder. If a real player has that exact name, they're whispered instead; add the marker (/w Brogan Flamehammer*) to always reach the placeholder.
  • Mail: type the placeholder with the marker in the "To:" box (Brogan Flamehammer*) to send to the player behind it. Without the marker, the recipient is never changed, so mail can't go to the wrong person by accident.
  • Reply to mail goes to the real sender.
  • Tooltips and right-click menus show the real name.

Fully customisable

  • Choose which writing systems and languages to filter.
  • Edit the name lists for every race and gender.
  • Allow list for players you never want hidden or renamed.
  • Remove individual placeholders or clear them all.
