Description

Enemy Role Icons

Know who to hit — and who's healing them.

Enemy Role Icons places a clean, high-resolution role icon above every enemy player's nameplate, so you can spot the healers in a battleground brawl at a glance.

Built from the ground up for World of Warcraft: Midnight (12.x) and its new addon restrictions.

Features

  • Role icons on enemy nameplates — Healer, DPS and Tank, using Blizzard's own role artwork
  • Healers stand out — healer icons can be scaled up separately so they're impossible to miss
  • "?" for unknown roles — when a role can't be determined, you'll see a "?" instead of a wrong guess
  • Full settings window — sliders and checkboxes with a live preview, no slash commands needed
  • Minimap button — left-click for settings, right-click for test mode, drag to move
  • Addon compartment support — also available from the minimap addon menu
  • English & Korean — switch languages instantly with one button, no reload required
  • Lightweight — event-driven, no per-frame updates, icons redraw only when something actually changes

How It Works

Midnight hides enemy player names and GUIDs from addons in instanced PvP ("secret values"), so role detection uses the information that is still available:

Situation Method
Arena Opponent specializations revealed before the match
Battlegrounds Enemy team composition from the scoreboard, matched by class
Mixed classes Resource type (e.g. Mana Priest = Healer, Insanity Priest = Shadow)
Pure DPS classes Warriors, Rogues, Hunters, Mages, Warlocks, Death Knights and Demon Hunters can't heal, so they're marked instantly anywhere

Settings

Open the settings window any of these ways:

  • Left-click the minimap button
  • The addon compartment menu next to the minimap
  • Game Menu → Options → AddOns → Enemy Role Icons
  • Type /eri
Option Description
Icon size 10 – 50
Healer icon scale 100% – 200%
Height above nameplate -20 – 50
Opacity 20% – 100%
Show DPS / Tank icons Turn off to show healers only
Show "?" when unknown Hide or show undetermined roles
Test mode Shows icons on NPC nameplates so you can adjust size and position anywhere
Hide minimap button Settings remain available via /eri

Slash Commands

  • /eri — open / close settings
  • /eri debug — print the detected enemy team composition
  • /eri reset — restore default settings

Known Limitations

These come from Midnight's addon restrictions, not from the addon itself:

  • Paladins, Evokers, and Enhancement/Restoration Shamans use mana in every spec. If the enemy team has both a healer and a DPS of the same one of these classes, they'll show as "?".
  • Open world / War Mode has no scoreboard, so the classes above show as "?" outside of battlegrounds and arenas.
  • Nameplates must be enabled to see the icons.

Feedback

Found a bug or a wrong role? Please leave a comment or open an issue with:

  • What you expected vs. what you saw
  • Battleground or arena, and the enemy's class
  • The output of /eri debug if possible

Screenshots help a lot!
