Emoter

Emoter is a small, no-frills addon for roleplayers. It helps you write emotes and dialogue in the chat input field without extra slashes, menus, or setup.

Type a marker and Emoter finishes the pair, colors closed markup while you type, and tidies leftover characters before the message is sent.

Features

Auto-pairing
Typing *, ", ', (, [, {, or < inserts the matching closer behind the cursor so you can keep writing in the middle.

Close on send
If a pair is still open when you press Enter, Emoter appends the missing closer. Near the 255-character limit it shortens the text just enough so the closer still fits — even mid-word.

Live colors in the edit box (only when a pair is actually closed)

• *waves* / **waves** — emote orange
• "Hello there." — white
• (OOC) — gray

A single leftover * or " stays in the normal text color until it is closed.

Channel colors

• /say — white body text
• /emote, /yell, /shout and others — official channel color for the rest of the line

Cleanup
Doubled wrappers are stripped while you type and again on send:

• ""example"" → "example"
• ((OOC)) → (OOC)
• same for '', [], {}, <>
• **emote** is left alone

Typing a second " right after an existing one will not create another pair.
