Darnassian: your character picks their own terms of address.

A Night Elf saying "Farewell, friend" had friend rewritten to kin or kindred, and either word could also be appended to any message as flavour.

That was the fix for an earlier report — friend used to come out as shan'do, which means teacher — and it was an improvement, but wrong for its own reason. Kin and kindred claim shared blood, and Night Elves are not speaking only to other Night Elves. Addressing a Dwarf, a Draenei or a Forsaken as kin is not a claim a kaldorei would make carelessly.

Which word fits depends entirely on who is listening, and the addon cannot see that. So it no longer chooses: friend, brother, sister, kin and kindred now all survive exactly as you type them.

The greeting and the farewell still translate. Only the term of address is left to you.
