EllesmereUI Bags: Alts

Find any item on any of your characters, without switching to them.

A companion addon for the Bags module of EllesmereUI in World of Warcraft: Midnight. It remembers the bags, equipped gear, bank, warband bank, mailbox, auctions, currencies and (if you want) guild bank of every character you play. It shows that stock in item tooltips and in a browser window across all characters, similar to Baganator, but in EllesmereUI's look.

It only displays. The browser never uses, moves or picks up items.

Features

• Every character remembered. Bags (incl. reagent bag), equipped gear, gold, level and guild stay up to date while you play. Bank, warband bank, mailbox and guild bank are recorded when you visit them, own auctions at the auction house.
• Tooltip counts (opt-in). Every item tooltip lists which character has how many and where (bags, bank, equipped, mail, auctions), plus warband bank, guild banks and a total. Optionally only while Shift, Ctrl or Alt is held, and limited to connected realms, this realm or all realms.
• Browser (/alts). All characters grouped by realm, the warband bank and your guild banks, with tabs for Everything, Bags, Bank, Equipped, Mail, Auctions and Currency.
• Overviews. "All characters" and every realm header merge everything you own into one view, grouped by item class or by EllesmereUI's bag categories.
• Search across all characters, banks and stored currencies: by name, id:12345, q:epic or t:armor.
• Currencies grouped into character-bound, transferable and warband-wide, with a tooltip that shows who holds how much.
• Auction tracking. Posted auctions appear at once. Cancelled and expired ones move to "Mail → In transit", sold ones wait under "Mail → Sold" with the amount until you open the mailbox.
• Bound state and equipment sets. Stored items remember whether they are soulbound or warbound, and which equipment sets they belong to.
• Bag header button (opt-in) in the EllesmereUI bags that opens the browser.
• 11 languages, the same set as EllesmereUI.

Lightweight by design

The addon follows the rules EllesmereUI sets for its own code:

• Nothing happens until you use it. At login it scans nothing and registers no collector events. It wakes up the first time you open your bags, a bank, mailbox, auction house, the browser, or hover an item with tooltip counts on.
• Nothing visible without consent. Tooltip counts, the header button, the guild bank and the active auction query are off by default. The first time you open your bags, one popup asks whether you want tooltip counts and the button.
• Cheap when on. Event-driven only, no polling, no timers. Tooltip counts come from caches.
• No taint. No secure templates, no hooks on Blizzard's bag windows, nothing written onto EllesmereUI or Blizzard frames. EllesmereUI itself is never modified.

Requirements

• World of Warcraft: Midnight 12.1 or later
• EllesmereUI with the Bags module (required; the other EllesmereUI modules are not needed)
• Optional: EllesmereUI's Blizzard skin module. With it, the browser wears EllesmereUI's window look.

This is an independent addon, not made by the EllesmereUI authors. It builds on EllesmereUI Bags and never modifies EllesmereUI itself.

Getting started

1. Install the addon and log in.
2. Open your bags. A popup asks whether to turn on tooltip counts and the header button.
3. Log in each character once and open its bags. Visit a banker once for bank data and a mailbox once for mail.
4. Type /alts to open the browser.

Commands

All options are under Options → AddOns → EllesmereUI Bags: Alts. The section "Data collection" switches every source on or off on its own.

Good to know

• Bank, mail and guild bank are only as current as your last visit. The browser footer shows the timestamps.
• Mail is tracked only for characters on which the addon has been used at least once.
• The client loads up to 50 mails at a time; only those are read. Gold and currencies sent by mail are not recorded.
• Collapsed currency categories are picked up once they change or you expand them. The addon does not expand UI elements for you.

Reporting bugs

Please include the output of /alts status and /alts selftest, and the error message from BugSack if there is one. For auction or guild bank issues, turn on /alts debug and include the chat lines.

Translations

English plus German, Spanish (Spain and Latin America), French, Italian, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian and Chinese (simplified and traditional). All translations besides English were generated by an AI and have not been reviewed by native speakers. Corrections are very welcome, from a single string to a full review of a language.

About AI assistance

This addon was built with an AI coding assistant (Claude, by Anthropic), used strictly as an implementation tool. The idea, the scope, the design decisions and the direction of every change came from the human maintainer, who guided the work closely and tested it in the game throughout development. Every feature has been validated in the game by a human.

The AI also wrote the script that draws the addon icon and the project avatar. The images come from that code, drawn with plain shapes, not from an image-generation model.
