How to use DeviceLayout

Choose a different Blizzard Edit Mode layout for each computer. DeviceLayout remembers your choice locally and selects it at login or /reload.

Early preview: In-game compatibility testing is still pending. Please report errors and unexpected behavior.

First-time setup

1. Install and enable DeviceLayout.
2. Open Blizzard Edit Mode.
3. Create or select your preferred layout.
4. Save the layout with a unique name.
5. Exit Edit Mode.
6. Type /devicelayout to open the addon settings.
7. Under Layout on this computer, select your saved layout.

Repeat these steps on each computer. You can choose a different layout on each one.

DeviceLayout starts disabled. It does not select a layout until you configure it.

Example

On your desktop:

/devicelayout set Desktop

On your laptop:

/devicelayout set Laptop

Replace Desktop and Laptop with your actual layout names. Names are case-sensitive. Spaces are supported without quotation marks:

/devicelayout set My Laptop Layout

Commands

• /devicelayout — Open the addon settings.
• /devicelayout set <layout name> — Save and apply an existing layout.
• /devicelayout status — Show your saved choice and current status.
• /devicelayout off — Disable automatic selection without changing your current layout.

What to expect

• Your chosen layout applies once at login or /reload.
• Later manual layout changes remain unchanged until the next login or reload.
• In combat, DeviceLayout waits until combat ends.
• DeviceLayout never creates, deletes, or modifies your layout contents.

Important notes

• Retail only.
• The choice applies to all characters on the same local WoW account. The selected layout must be available to each character.
• Each computer stores its choice locally. Synchronizing your WTF/SavedVariables folder also copies this choice.
• Other addons that automatically select Edit Mode layouts can conflict with DeviceLayout.

Troubleshooting

Layout missing from the dropdown?

Save it in Blizzard Edit Mode first. Built-in presets are not listed. Save a custom copy to use one.

Layout renamed or unavailable?

Choose the layout again in DeviceLayout. If multiple layouts have the same name, give each layout a unique name.

Selection canceled because Edit Mode is active?

1. Save or discard your edits.
2. Exit Edit Mode.
3. Choose the layout again or type /reload.
