DeckForever sets up World of Warcraft: Forever for the Steam Deck in one press. Pick a preset, keep it or revert within 15 seconds, done. Every value was measured on a Steam Deck OLED with a power logger, not guessed.
Four presets
| Preset | Frame rate | What you get | Deck TDP | Battery life* |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Battery | 30 fps | the lightest look, steady everywhere, even in cities | 8–10 W | ~4.3 h |
| Balanced | 45 fps | Battery plus real shadows and shading | 10 W | ~3.7 h |
| Max FPS | 60 fps | sharp, deep view, full power | Off | ~2.8 h |
| Max Quality | 30 fps | everything high: lighting, shadows, reflections; plug in | Off | ~2.5 h |
*Steam Deck OLED, questing, measured. Capitals are power-bound on any handheld: the 45/60 presets land around 45–50 fps there; Battery at 30 is the one that stays smooth.
Made for the Deck
- Works with the controller. D-pad moves, A selects, B closes, shoulders switch tabs. Big buttons, no dropdowns, no hover-only controls.
- Steam Deck tab tells you the Quick Access settings that go with each preset (refresh rate, frame limit, TDP), since an addon can't set those.
- UI scale for the 7-inch screen. The game locks its own UI Scale option; DeckForever scales the interface instead.
- Reload UI button in the window, so you never have to type /reload on a touchscreen.
- Minimap button with a quick menu: apply any preset, restore your previous settings, open the window.
Safe to try
- Your own settings are saved before the first preset is applied. Restore previous brings them back at any time.
- Every apply comes with a 15-second Keep / Revert dialog. Do nothing and it reverts on its own.
- Nothing is written in combat; it waits until the fight ends.
- Raid and battleground settings (the game keeps a separate set) follow the preset, a notch lower.
Customize
Every preset setting is a stepper in the Customize tab, with the game's own names (Secondary Lighting, Shadows, View Distance, Render Scale…). Changed values show in gold, one button resets a preset to built-in.
Slash commands
/deckforever opens the window. Also: apply battery|balanced|performance|quality, restore, preview <preset>, set <preset> <setting> <value>, reset <preset>, uiscale 0.75, minimap on|off, help.
Notes
- Built for World of Warcraft: Forever (the modern-engine client). Not for Retail or Classic Era.
- Compute Effects frees its frame time fully only after a Reload UI; the addon tells you when that applies.
- Works on any PC too; the presets are simply tuned for a 1280x800 screen and a 15 W chip.
Measured, not guessed
Presets come from standing and questing runs on a Steam Deck OLED with the chip's power, GPU load and frame times logged every two seconds: which settings cost frame time on this hardware (Secondary Lighting and Shadows above all), which cost nothing standing still but plenty while moving, and where the TDP limit, not the settings, decides the frame rate.
