A structural challenge and procedural bounty system for World of Warcraft (Classic Era & Burning Crusade Classic)
Dark Patron completely overhauls the standard progression loop of World of Warcraft. Upon entering Azeroth, your character is bound by "The Veil"—a strict set of structural limitations that lock away basic game features, higher-tier gear, and even your talent points. To survive, you must accept and execute procedural contracts issued by the Dark Patron, earning the currency required to buy back your freedom.
Designed with grueling restrictions in mind, this addon seamlessly supports standard, Hardcore, and Solo Self-Found (SSF) playstyles, dynamically adjusting to your ruleset.
📜 The Core Gameplay Loop
- Accept Pacts: Open the Patron's Ledger to view the Bounty Board. Drag and drop randomized contracts into your Active Pacts slots.
- Execute the Contract: Fulfill the conditions of the pact in the open world, in dungeons, or in PvP.
- Earn Currency: Successfully completing pacts rewards Dark Favor, Dark Sigils, or Apex Sigils, depending on the rarity and difficulty of the task.
- Purchase Sanctions: Rest at an Inn or Capital City to access the Patron's Bazaar. Spend your hard-earned currency to permanently unlock gameplay features, gear tiers, mounts, and talent points.
⚔️ Procedural Pacts
The Bounty Board dynamically generates contracts tailored to your character's level, class, and professions. Pacts scale in difficulty and reward, pushing you to play differently:
- Combat Trials: Execute targets, survive massive damage, successfully parry/dodge, or fight unarmed and unarmored.
- Elemental Mastery: Meet massive damage quotas for Frost, Shadow, Nature, Arcane, Holy, or Fire spells.
- Harsh Constraints: Endure "Flawless" kills (taking zero damage) or uphold the "Grimoire's Vow" (forbidding the cast of any Shadow magic during an execution).
- Economy & Tradeskills: Utilize your gathering and crafting professions to stockpile required trade goods, cook specific meals, or amass copper from the world.
- Targeted Hunts: Spend Favor to sign Blood Contracts, tasking you with hunting down specific Elite enemies in your local zone.
⚖️ The Patron's Bazaar & The Veil
You begin the game restricted to Common (White) gear, with no access to the Bank, Auction House, Mailbox, or even your Talent Tree. Attempting to bypass the Veil will result in the immediate removal of illegal gear, the stripping of unsanctioned World Buffs, or forceful dismounting.
You must buy back your power through Sanctions in the Bazaar:
- Armaments: Unlock the right to equip Uncommon (Green), Rare (Blue), and Epic (Purple) gear.
- Grant of Knowledge: Purchase the right to spend your earned talent points, culminating in the ultimate "Capstone Awakening."
- Worldly Access: Buy the Hoarder's Key (Bank), Merchant's Writ (Auction House), and Courier's Seal (Mail).
- Cavalry: Earn the right to summon Journeyman, Master, Expert, and Artisan mounts.
- Alchemist's Sight: Unlock the ability to use powerful combat consumables like Limited Invulnerability Potions and Flasks of Petrification.
⚙️ Features & Integration
- Dynamic On-Screen Tracker: A highly customizable, draggable UI element tracks your active pact progress in real-time.
- The Streak Wick: Completing pacts rapidly ignites a ticking combo timer. Fulfill 5 pacts before the wick burns out to earn bonus Dark Favor and hear unique whispers from the Patron.
- Chat Integration: Shift-click any active or available pact to link a custom, color-coded tooltip directly into the game chat for others to see.
- The Chronicle: Every action is recorded. The Ledger tracks your total pacts accepted, broken promises, and your preferred "Archetype" based on how you fulfill your contracts. For those braving a one-life journey, falling in combat generates a permanent, personalized Death Epitaph.
🛑 Beta Note & Feedback
This is a Beta release. The economy is currently balanced around a highly restrictive 1-2 base Dark Favor payout to preserve the challenge. If you encounter any Lua errors, weird pacing spikes, or have ideas for new procedural triggers, please leave a comment!
