What's new

DandyMap 1.6.0

October 19, 2026. Changes since 1.5.0; existing saved settings are retained.

The great refactor

  • Reorganized DandyMap around one entrypoint, with separate folders for feature modules, generated data, translated map labels, media and documentation. Shared chat and mover helpers live in modules/shared.
  • Consolidated overlapping pin-runtime helpers, the automap preset, outline registration and native-map geometry while keeping existing filters, navigation, position and size resets.
  • Removed the unused About Build window and its duplicate Lua changelog. Release notes remain available in docs/changelog.md.

Quest markers and simplified pins

  • Completed quest markers now pair the question mark with Blizzard's native circle on both DandyMap and the automap. Difficulty colors apply to both parts, and overlapping markers keep each circle and its symbol together.
  • Simplified Service Pins groups services of the same kind using the current zoom, including guild services, flight masters, additional trainer roles and nearby mailbox source IDs. Compatible visible mailboxes can group when their original faction-access flags differ. Each original location remains available in the group's menu.
  • Simplification Distance defaults to Automatic (Current Zoom), grouping icons according to their screen spacing. Fixed limits from 5 through 100 yards remain available. Simplified Pin Spacing offers 16 through 64 pixels, defaulting to 32; zooming in separates groups when there is room.
  • Added Group Nearby Locations of the Same Rare, off by default. It combines nearby locations of the same rare while retaining each location's navigation and provider actions. Different rare NPCs remain separate.
  • Added Group All Locations of the Same Rare, off by default. It displays one group per rare on the current world map and floor, using all eligible locations across its zones. Its member menu retains every exact destination and available provider action.
  • Corrected name-based service mistakes for Terry Longdrink, Dungar Longdrink and Vilebranch Blood Drinker using their reviewed NPC roles. Repeated civilian positions for the same NPC simplify with zoom.
  • Reviewed Lunar Festival, Darkmoon Faire and Hallow's End vendors and representatives now follow their seasonal filters while retaining their service and quest roles.
  • Clicking a simplified group opens its member menu for exact-location tracking, sharing and available rare-provider actions. Grouping follows visible filters and preserves the original catalog coordinates.

Position diagnostics

  • Added /dandymap pos to report your current player world and map coordinates and compare nearby mailbox catalog locations. Use /dandymap pos copy for a copyable report with distances and coordinate differences. These commands sample your character's position; they do not change mailbox records, map state or navigation.

Rendering efficiency

  • Pin preparation batches cheap work checkpoints within the existing shared time budget, reducing the extra frames needed before prepared pins appear. Whole-map rare grouping caches its rare-only source across camera movements.
  • Reuse the pin display-settings fingerprint when its values are unchanged, while checking direct setting edits and source revisions on every request.
  • Skip pin-canvas anchor updates when its position is unchanged. Panning, new pin results and hover continue to update normally.
  • Skip scheduler visibility and timing checks when no map work is queued; active work keeps the existing budget, priority and cancellation behavior.
  • Reuse automap border geometry and mask visibility while the viewport is unchanged, retaining resizing, style transitions and dynamic texture discovery.

Built-in location data

  • Updated DandyMap's built-in locations from the pinned Classic Forever QuestieDB development snapshot 1.0.6-dev.e9a67d1.
  • NPC, service, quest-source and mailbox locations are converted into DandyMap's spatially indexed catalogs before packaging, so opening the map reads prepared map data.
  • Removed the privately bundled QuestieDB runtime, loader adapters and duplicated database metadata. Existing faction and profession filters, quest-source eligibility, localized labels, tooltips and navigation remain available.
  • The separate Questie addon remains optional, retaining its existing live quest pins, overlays and actions.

Automap artwork

  • Clean Contours is the only bundled outdoor outline rendition. Removed the Lite and Original libraries and the redundant Outline Version selector to reduce the addon size.
  • Earlier saved Lite or Original selections display Clean Contours without resetting other settings.
  • Biome Colors uses Clean Contours when optional color artwork is unavailable. Explicit transparent cells and sparse outline gaps stay transparent; supported city outlines and other styles retain their behavior.

File organization

  • All bundled images use lowercase media paths. Automap contours and city linework live under media/automap/outlines, and city terrain under media/terrain/cities.
  • Player documentation and source attribution use lowercase filenames in docs. Static catalogs live in data, translated map labels in locales, and feature code in modules.
  • Addon identity, bindings, artwork pixels, map placement and existing profiles are retained.
