Description
Crimson Campfire turns sitting at a campfire into a mini-game lobby: when you pick up the Welcoming Campfire buff, a window pops up showing everyone else nearby doing the same, and a click sends a duel-style challenge into a best-of-10 dice duel built on the game's own /roll. Built for WoW Classic Era, including World of Warcraft Forever v1.60.1.
Crimson Campfire — Mini-Games at the Fire
Every campfire in Azeroth is already a little social hub — people sit down, wait out a rez timer, chat, roll for a mount. Crimson Campfire gives that moment something to do. The instant you pick up the Welcoming Campfire buff, a window opens listing every other nearby player who also has the addon and is also sitting at the fire. Click on someone, they get a duel-style challenge popup, and if they accept you're both dropped into a head-to-head dice duel — no group required, no trade window, nothing to set up.
There's no server, no website, no account. Two copies of the addon just talk to each other directly over the game's own chat protocol the moment two players happen to be sitting at the same fire.
Features
Automatic campfire lobby No menu to dig for — the window opens by itself the moment you get the Welcoming Campfire buff, and closes itself when you lose it. A match already in progress stays open even if you wander off mid-game.
See who's around, and what they're up to Everyone nearby with the addon shows up with a live status: Waiting to Play or In a Game — so you always know who's actually free to challenge before you click.
Duel-style challenges Click a waiting player and they get a familiar Accept/Decline popup, just like a duel request, with a timeout so it doesn't sit there forever if they're away from the keyboard.
Dice Duel — best of 10, powered by the real /roll Each round, both players hit Roll! and the addon calls the exact same RandomRoll the built-in /roll command uses — no custom RNG, no trust required, just the same roll everyone already knows and can verify. Higher roll wins the round; most round wins after 10 rounds takes the match. A tie after 10 rounds triggers sudden-death rounds until someone pulls ahead.
Forfeit anytime Either player can bail out of an in-progress match at any point; the other side is notified immediately instead of being left staring at a frozen window.
Lightweight and self-contained No dependencies, no libraries to install separately, nothing written to disk between sessions — it only cares about what's happening around you right now.
Commands
Installation
- Download and extract the
CrimsonCampfirefolder into:World of Warcraft/_classic_era_/Interface/AddOns/ - Make sure
CrimsonCampfire.tocsits directly insideAddOns/CrimsonCampfire/(not a nested subfolder). - Anyone who wants to be challengeable — or to see who's around — needs the addon installed. There's no server component and nothing to configure.
Compatibility
Built for WoW Classic Era (interface 11509, client 1.15.9), including World of Warcraft Forever v1.60.1, a custom client built on the same Classic Era interface version. It is not a retail, Wrath Classic, or Cataclysm Classic addon.
The addon looks for a buff named exactly "Welcoming Campfire". If your server names its campfire buff something else, /campfire buffs will print your current buffs so it can be pointed at the right one.
Known Limitations
- One mini-game (Dice Duel) and one active match at a time — more games are planned, using the same lobby and challenge system.
- Nearby-player discovery rides the game's
YELLaddon-message range, so very spread-out campfires may not see every sitting player instantly; the campfire buff itself is what actually guarantees you're near the same fire. - Roll detection assumes the client's roll-result message follows the standard
<name> rolls <value> (<low>-<high>)structure — this holds for every known locale of that string, but hasn't been verified against every one individually.
What's Next
Crimson Campfire is built so additional mini-games can slot into the same lobby, challenge popup, and status system already in place — Dice Duel is just the first one.
