What's new
Crafter's Journal
0.36.0
Crafted tools in the right place, and required steps can't be removed. A tool you craft (Runed Golden Rod) now shows up at the step that needs it instead of at the start of the route. When a crafted item can't be bought (it binds when picked up, or nobody sells it), its row says so and has no ✕.
Clearer essence conversions. The row now says what to convert and how many times ("Convert 129 Greater Magic Essence into 387 Lesser Magic Essence · right-click the Greater Magic Essence in your bags (129 times)"), and to buy them first if you don't have them.
The current step counts skill points, not crafts. The highlighted step said "2 of 12 crafts" even when those 2 points came from crafting something else (like Bolt of Woolen Cloth for a later step), as if you had made 2 Woolen Capes. It now says "2/10 points · ~10 more crafts": how far you are in the step, and about how many more of that recipe you need.
Professions in a steady order. The home page and Patterns sort the cards the same way: your professions first, then the rest. Within each group they follow a fixed order: Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Enchanting, Engineering, Leatherworking and Tailoring, then the secondary professions, Cooking and First Aid. Before, each page sorted differently and the order changed as you leveled.
Error log. The addon now keeps a record of its own Lua errors and of actions the game blocks, grouping repeats with a count. They still show up as usual (error window, BugSack…). Type
/cj errorsto list them and/cj errors clearto empty the list. When reporting a bug, this list helps a lot.A star over the NPC you're sent to. Clicking a trainer, vendor or auctioneer row still sets the route, and if that NPC is nearby it's also targeted and marked with the star raid marker, so it's easy to spot in a crowd. Clicking again removes the star. It does nothing in combat or if the NPC isn't nearby. In a group, only the leader or an assistant can set markers.
A new route planner: it looks at the whole route, like a GPS. The old planner picked the best recipe one skill point at a time, then corrected itself in several passes. That was slow and could settle for a route that isn't the best overall. The new one looks at the whole route, the way a sat-nav finds the shortest road. It proposes complete paths from your level to your target, each recipe paying its trainer (and any tool it needs) once. It walks each path with real Auction House prices, intermediate crafts and what's in your bags. Then it improves the best one: craft or buy each material, try other recipes for a step, move step boundaries. Across 49 test scenarios (every profession, several skill ranges, with and without bags) it found a cheaper route in 33 and the same one in 16, and never a worse one, in about the same time. It also avoids zigzag routes, like alternating Bolt of Woolen Cloth and Woolen Cape every point. It also remembers the route it gave you, so when your bags change (turning scraps into leather) it keeps that route unless another one is really better. Started routes don't change.
tools/route_qa.pycompares it with the old planner.Sell to the vendor from the vendor window. When you open a vendor, the Crafter's Journal window next to it now also lists what the Profit view says to sell to the vendor and you carry in your bags: how many and what you get. Click a row to sell it, or "Sell all". As with buying, it only sells when you click.
Real vendor prices. Forever's vendors don't always pay what the game data says: Hillman's Shoulders sell for 6s 59c, not 11s 99c, and the route counted the higher price. When you sell something to a vendor, the addon now notes what you actually got and uses that from then on. Hillman's Shoulders are already corrected.
What you have in your bags is valued correctly. Using 10 of your 34 Medium Hide used to count as if you were selling those 10, best price first. But you keep selling the rest yourself, so what you actually give up is less. This changes when "With what you have" suggests a recipe.
Cured Medium Hide and Medium Armor Kit cost what Forever's trainer charges. They're 2s and 2s 50c, not the original Classic 6s 50c. Prices seen at a trainer now also update a started route: its recipes stay the same, only what it costs to learn them changes.
Every trainer recipe gets checked. When you open a trainer, the addon now reads its whole list, even recipes its filters hide.
/cj trainershows how many trainer recipes of each profession you've seen and how many differ from the data. It also lists recipes a trainer teaches that the addon doesn't know yet (like Gray Leather Boots), so they can be added."Get recipe" rows for the Auction House take you there. Clicking them sets a route to the nearest auctioneer; with the Auction House open, it searches for the recipe.
Routes are recalculated less often. Crafting or buying used to throw away the routes of all eight professions. Now only the routes that use your bags (and aren't started) are redone. Learning a recipe only redoes that profession's route, and browsing a trainer without learning anything redoes nothing. The home page only calculates routes for the professions your character has. The others are calculated when you open them, and their card then shows that route. Nothing is calculated while the window is closed.
The route no longer jumps around while you use your materials. With "Use what you have in your bags" on and no route started, the route recalculates when your bags change, and turning Ruined Leather Scraps into Light Leather could suddenly switch it to a route asking for hundreds of Light Leather. The route was chosen as if you bought Light Leather but then costed as if you crafted it, so having more materials could give a worse route. Both now use the same decision, and the craft-or-buy check also tries materials seen in other routes. Converting your scraps now keeps the same route. Tip: press "Start route" before you start crafting or buying, and nothing in the route changes at all.
"You have" only counts your bags. The shopping list, the vendor window and "use what you have" no longer count your bank or Auction House purchases waiting in the mailbox. The mailbox count kept saying "87 in the mail" after you had already picked up the scraps and turned them into leather.
A double click on "Start route" no longer releases it. The button turns into "Recalculate route" in the same spot, so a quick second click used to undo the start.
"Hidden tips" instead of "Recipes removed from the route" when the only thing you hid is a "With what you have" note: the route itself didn't change.
Removed "Actual" spending tracking. The second row under the summary ("Actual: …") and the "sold" counts in the Profit view are gone. Matching each purchase and sale to the right route was unreliable, especially with routes started in several professions at once. Started routes, the shopping list and selling or posting from the Profit view work as before.
What you could make with what you have. With "Use what you have in your bags" on, the route now looks at recipes your materials could level you with for a good stretch. If making one with what you have beats selling your materials and following the route, the route uses it. If it doesn't, a quote under the steps explains why: "With what you have you could make Elixir of Minor Fortitude (50–75): you only spend 3s 25c at the trainer and vendor, but you use 50 Earthroot and 25 Peacebloom worth about 1g 63s on the AH. Selling yours and following the route is about 1g 24s better." With a route already started, it tells you to recalculate when one would be worth it. When using your materials comes out about the same as selling them (less than 15% of what they're worth apart), the route uses them: no selling 68 bolts on the AH to save 3s. Not interested in a note? Its ✕ hides it for that recipe without changing the route; "Hidden tips" brings it back. It looks at every recipe your materials allow, not just the one giving the most points, so a Medium Armor Kit with your Medium Leather isn't missed because Cured Medium Hide alone wasn't worth it. What your materials would fetch is judged like the Profit view does: a realistic Auction House price only when the market looks good (a few units when it's unclear), the rest at the vendor, and never more units on the AH than are listed there now.
Trainer prices for Forever's new recipes. Sulfuric Acid and Cerulean Dye now cost 1s 35c and are learned at Alchemy 40 (they showed "?" and 50). The skill 20 camp recipes (Mana Well, Camp Tent, Reagent Bot, Enchanted Lute, Sharpening Wheel, Faction Banner) are free: they're taught by the quest "Camping 101". Minor Mana Potion costs 90c at Forever's trainer, not 1s.
Real trainer prices, learned in game. When you open a profession trainer, the addon now reads what each recipe really costs and the skill it requires, and remembers it. The route, the learn rows and the Recipes view use those prices instead of the built-in data, so a recipe whose price wasn't known ("?") shows its real cost once you've seen it at a trainer. Type
/cj trainerto list the prices that differ from the addon's data (please send them in so they get fixed for everyone). No more nearly-grey recipes just because they sell well. When a recipe makes money selling to the vendor, that profit no longer grows with the extra crafts a nearly-grey recipe needs. Before, the route could pick Lesser Magic Wand at 8% (13 crafts per point) over Greater Magic Wand at 95%, or Curiously Tasty Omelet at 10% (83 crafts for 4 points), just because more crafts meant more items to sell. Each extra craft per point now also weighs a little, so a profitable recipe is only kept nearly grey when it really saves money.
Materials are either crafted or bought, never both. For a material you can craft (Light Leather from Ruined Leather Scraps, bars...), the route now crafts all of it or buys all of it, whichever is cheaper counting 5c per extra craft. Before, it could ask for scraps and Light Leather at the same time, and crafting the scraps lowered what the shopping list said you still had to buy.
"Craft N×" steps show up right when they're needed. A material that's only used to craft another material (Light Leather for a Fine Leather Tunic) now goes right before that one, instead of at the start of the route. Click it to open its recipe and craft what's missing, like the leveling steps; with a route started, it's highlighted as the current step while you still need it.
Buy a material instead of crafting it. The "Craft 30× Light Leather" step now has a ✕: the route recalculates buying it ready-made on the AH, without its materials. "Recipes removed from the route" lists it and brings it back.
The current step starts with learning the recipe. With a route started, if you don't know the recipe of the step you're on yet, the highlighted step is "Train …" / "Buy recipe: …", not the crafting step. Once you learn it, the highlight moves to crafting.
Learning a recipe updates the route right away. When you learn a recipe at the trainer (or from a pattern) with a route started, its "Train"/"Buy recipe" step turns grey with a ✓ and "Learned", like finished steps. Without a started route, the route is recalculated.
Fixed started routes showing up on other characters. Characters with the same name on the same realm (possible in Forever) shared routes and profession settings, and the first character to log in after per-character data was added got everyone's old settings. Each character now keeps its own, identified by its unique character ID. Because the old shared data can't be split between characters, routes started before this update are cleared once: start them again.
Scroll indicator in the recipe list. A thin bar on the right of the recipe collection shows where you are in the list and how much is left; drag it to move. It only shows when the list doesn't fit.
Profit view shows how many you carry. Each crafted item now says how many are in your bags ("3 in bags"), so you can see what you can sell or post right now.
The shopping list next to the Auction House only shows started routes. The arrows switch between professions where you pressed "Start route" (and are hidden when there's only one). With no route started, it tells you how to start one.
Sharper icon on "Recipes removed from the route". It's now drawn at its real size instead of stretched and pixelated.
0.35.2
- Waypoints for new Forever NPCs. Some NPCs added in Forever have no location in the community databases yet, so clicking them said "unknown place". Odd Child (the quest "My First Real Potion" for Minor Discolored Healing Potion: inside the barn in Moonbrook, Westfall), Patricia Egan (Alchemy trainer, Dalaran) and Kaylaena Springwhisper (Engineering trainer, Mount Hyjal) now get a waypoint. For any NPC whose location still isn't known, the message now says so clearly.
0.35.1
- Fixed recipes learned at the trainer shown as known from the start. Some recipes new to Forever (Mana Well, Camp Tent, Enchanted Lute, Sharpening Wheel, Reagent Bot, Faction Banner, Cerulean Dye, Sulfuric Acid) were treated as basic recipes you know from level 1, so the route could tell you to craft Mana Well at 15 when the trainer only teaches it at 20. They're now learned at the trainer at the right level (the trainer cost shows as "?" since it isn't known yet).
- Fixed recipes you learn automatically. Linen Bag and a few other recipes are learned automatically in Forever; the route no longer sends you to pay the trainer for them.
0.35.0
- Start route. New "Start route" button under the summary: it locks the route you've chosen. While you buy on the Auction House, from vendors or take items from your mailbox, neither the route nor its cost change, and what you buy for it no longer shows up as free materials. Steps you've already passed are marked as done. Prices are frozen too: a new Auction House scan doesn't change the route's totals (not even after a reload) until you choose — "Update prices" keeps the same route with the new prices, "Recalculate route" looks for a new route. Playing never unlocks it (leveling up, buying, crafting), and when you reach your target it stays as "Route completed!" until you recalculate. Changing it on purpose does: "Recalculate route", the target, an option icon or removing a recipe.
- Live progress while you craft. With a route started, the step you're on is highlighted and shows how many crafts you've done and how many are left ("11 of 22 crafts · 11 left"); finished steps turn grey with a ✓ as soon as you reach the end of them, and you get a "Route completed!" message when you hit your target.
- Planned and actual. With a route started, the summary at the top shows a second row with what you've actually spent and earned since you started it: vendor and Auction House purchases, trainer costs and deposits, and what you get for selling what you craft (to vendors, and Auction House sales read from your mail). Only route items count.
- Shopping list at the vendor. Opening a vendor that sells something on your shopping list shows a window right next to it: what you're still missing, with a "Buy all" button (or click a row to buy just that one), and what you already have, greyed out. Purchases go one at a time and are checked when they arrive.
- Auction House purchases waiting in the mail. Auction House purchases arrive by mail in Forever: they're now counted as spent when you buy them, and the shopping list counts them as yours while they wait in your mailbox ("2 in the mail"), so it doesn't ask you to buy them again.
- Sell and post from the Profit view. With a vendor open, click a crafted item to sell what the route says to sell; with the Auction House open, click it to post it at the suggested price. Otherwise the click marks the nearest vendor or auctioneer on your map. Nothing is ever bought or sold without your click. The Profit view also shows how many of each item you've sold since starting the route.
- Craft from the route. Click a crafting step and it opens your profession with that recipe selected and starts crafting what's left of that step (at most what your materials allow). Prefer to only open the recipe? Turn off "Craft when clicking a route step" in Options → AddOns → Crafter's Journal.
- Remove a recipe from the route. Every step of the route now has a small ✕: click it if you don't want to use that recipe (for example, because its pattern is sold far away) and the route is recalculated with the next best option. A row at the end of the route brings removed recipes back.
- No more expensive patterns for a handful of crafts. The route could tell you to buy a pricey pattern (e.g. Deviate Scale Cloak for 70s on the Auction House) and then use it for only 3 crafts. Recipes you have to buy now only make it into the route when they pay off for the points they're actually used for.
- "Use bags and bank" now picks a better route. If the materials you're carrying make a different route cheaper overall (for example, leather in your bags makes Embossed Leather Gloves cheaper than buying Pattern: Deviate Scale Cloak), the route switches to it. Routes are compared as a whole, so it won't zigzag between recipes just to use up your materials.
- Clickable shopping list. Click an Auction House material to mark the nearest auctioneer on your map, or, with the Auction House open, to open its purchase with the quantity you're missing already filled in (just press Buy Now). The panel next to the Auction House does the same. Click a vendor material to mark the nearest vendor that sells it, or, with that vendor open, to buy what you're missing.
- Live shopping list. Each item now shows how many you have and how many are still missing for the rest of the route ("You have 12/20 · 8 missing"), and it updates as you buy, take items from your mailbox or craft. With a route started, items move between "buy" and "you already have it" based on what you carry right now.
- Each character has their own routes. Started routes and each profession's settings (target, options, removed recipes) are saved per character: your other characters don't see them, and you get them back when you log in with that character again.
- Picks up where you left off. Closing and reopening the window during a session takes you back to the page you were on, including the view you had open in a profession.
- Refreshed look. Bigger Route / Shopping list / Profit buttons with a large icon, like the Dungeon Journal's, more breathing room around everything, the Dungeon Journal's browns on the profession pages, both home pages and the recipe collection, and a color of its own for each profession card.
- Easier to read at a glance. The route now has a level column on the left: the level range of each crafting step ("72–75"), and the level where you learn a recipe, train a rank or get a tool. The shopping list and the Profit view use the same column for quantities, so all three views look alike.
- Cleaner routes. Where the route used to alternate two recipes every single point (e.g. Light Leather and Light Armor Kit from 1 to 20), it now sticks to one when that costs next to nothing extra: Leatherworking goes from 32 steps to 14.
- Merchant's Favor recipes, your choice. Recipes bought with Merchant's Favor tokens and camp reputation used to be counted as free in the route. Now they're left out by default, and a new Merchant's Favor icon next to the bag and quest icons lets you include them (they cost tokens, not gold; you need the camp reputation each one asks for).
- Routes in progress on the home page. Professions with a started route get a green border and a "Route in progress" note on their card.
- Fixed recipe skill requirements. 362 recipes learned from patterns, plans and formulas asked for less skill than they really need in Forever (e.g. Pattern: Dark Leather Tunic was shown at 50 but needs Leatherworking 75), so the route could tell you to learn a recipe you couldn't learn yet. They now use the exact skill each pattern requires.
0.34.3 (beta)
- Report a bug. New "Report" button in the top-left corner of the window: it shows our Discord link, ready to copy, so you can send us bugs, wrong data or new discoveries (with a screenshot).
- Clearer Auction House scans. If a scan doesn't finish (for example because the Auction House was closed before it ended), the header now says "Cancelled · last: …" instead of just showing the date of the previous scan, and the scan button's tooltip explains why. The message also reminds you to keep the Auction House open until the scan finishes.
- New minimap and addon-list icon.
0.34.2 (beta)
First public beta for WoW Forever.
- Level your professions the cheapest way. A step-by-step route from your current skill to 225 for Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Enchanting, Engineering, Leatherworking, Tailoring, Cooking and First Aid, using Auction House prices from your own scans.
- Trainers by rank. Each step sends you to a trainer who really teaches that rank in Forever, with a waypoint on your map.
- Recipe collection. Every recipe of each profession in a journal-style list: which ones you know, which you can learn now, where to get the rest (trainer, vendor, quest, drop, reputation, Merchant's Favor) and what they cost and earn.
- English and Spanish, switchable at any time, including recipe and item names.
