ChatThrottleLib Monitor

Monitors World of Warcraft addon network traffic sent through ChatThrottleLib, including bandwidth usage, message queues, and throttling.

Many popular WoW addons, including Deadly Boss Mods, Core Loot Manager, Gargul, PallyPower, and Nova World Buffs, use ChatThrottleLib (CTL) to manage outbound addon messages, either directly or through AceComm.

CTL manages message queues and throttles outbound traffic, which can introduce delays that make addons appear unresponsive or malfunctioning.

ChatThrottleLib Monitor (CTM) provides diagnostic information about CTL's internal state, helping identify potential causes of delayed addon messages.

Features

Observing the CTL Queue

CTM reports when CTL starts and stops queueing messages, including the duration of each queueing period.

The /ctm queue command displays the last time queueing was observed and its duration.

Use this feature to identify when CTL is delaying outbound addon messages.

Observing Addons Using CTL

When addons send a message, they provide an identifier known as a prefix, which can often help identify the sending addon.

The /ctm prefix command displays all message prefixes submitted to CTL, along with the last time each prefix was seen.

Use this feature to determine whether an addon is actually trying to send messages to other clients.

Note:

  • This does not guarantee that a message was successfully sent to or received by other clients, only that it was submitted to CTL.
  • A single addon can send messages with different prefixes.
  • Prefixes are not exclusive to individual addons. For example, in the screenshot above, DBM uses a BigWigs prefix for compatibility even though BigWigs is not installed.

Observing Messages Bypassing CTL

CTL also tracks traffic sent outside the library and accounts for it when managing its own bandwidth. Consequently, excessive traffic bypassing CTL can cause messages sent through CTL to be delayed.

The /ctm prefix command also displays message prefixes observed bypassing CTL, along with the last time each was seen.

The /ctm bytes command displays CTL's estimated outbound traffic totals, distinguishing messages sent through CTL from traffic bypassing it.

Use these features to investigate whether traffic bypassing CTL may be contributing to delayed addon messages.
