The addon contains a large catalog of fishing and aquatic equipment, consumables and utilities organized by purpose:

Fishing Skill

Items, consumables, baits, usable fish and buffs that increase Fishing Skill.

Perception

Equipment, consumables, food, flasks and fishing-related effects that increase Perception.

Items and effects that improve movement while swimming.

Underwater Breathing

Captain Hook includes a dynamic Fish Atlas.

The Atlas can automatically follow your current zone and select the appropriate expansion.

You can also manually switch to another expansion at any time.

For each fish, Captain Hook can display information such as:

- Catch information
- Relative catch data
- Fish family/type

The Atlas can also learn about previously unknown fish when they are actually caught, allowing its data to evolve alongside your own fishing activity.

Captain Hook can track your fishing activity during a session.

Depending on the current configuration, session information can include:

The Fishing Mode interface is designed to keep the most useful actions close at hand while you are actually fishing.

🧠 Smart item detection

Captain Hook does not simply rely on a static list of item names.

Where possible, the addon reads information directly from the World of Warcraft client to determine:

- Whether an item is owned
- Whether it is currently in your bags
- Whether it can actually be used
- Fishing Skill effects
- Perception effects
- Swim Speed effects
- Underwater Breathing effects
- Item expansion
- Cooldowns and durations

This also helps Captain Hook adapt when Blizzard changes item effects through patches or hotfixes.

🌍 Expansion-aware

Captain Hook is designed to work across multiple expansions.

Legacy fishing equipment remains available in the catalog, while items from the current expansion are automatically prioritized.

This is especially useful for players who enjoy collecting older fishing equipment while still wanting quick access to the most relevant modern items.

🗺️ Automatic zone detection

The Fish Atlas can automatically detect your current zone and choose the appropriate expansion.

Simply leave the Atlas on:

Automatic — Current Zone

and Captain Hook will follow your adventures.

Manual selection is always available if you want to browse another expansion.

🖱️ Minimap Button

Captain Hook includes a minimap button for quick access.

- Left Click: Toggle Fishing Mode

- Right Click: Open Captain Hook / Preparation depending on the current mode

When Fishing Mode is active, the minimap button receives a dedicated visual effect so its state can be recognized immediately.
