Bring the most memorable boss quotes from Classic World of Warcraft back to life.

BossTalk Anniversary is a modern rebuild of the classic BossTalk addon, created specifically for the current World of Warcraft Classic Anniversary client.

Browse more than 1,100 boss quotes from Classic and The Burning Crusade, select your favourite line and hear the original boss voice directly from the game client.

No audio files are bundled with the addon. BossTalk Anniversary uses the original audio already present in World of Warcraft through modern FileDataIDs.

Features

• Boss Quote Browser — browse quotes by expansion, raid or dungeon, boss and quote ID.

• Favourites — right-click individual quotes or entire bosses to add or remove them from your favourites.

• Search — search the entire active quote database by phrase and see matching quote IDs directly in chat.

• Events — automatically trigger selected quotes on events such as:

  • entering combat,

  • killing blows,

  • low health,

  • 
    and more...

• Sync — BossTalk users in your group, raid or guild can hear quotes triggered by other BossTalk users.

• Ignore / Blacklist — block incoming synchronized quotes from individual players or block specific quote IDs.

Quick Start

Left-click the minimap icon
Play a random quote.

Right-click the minimap icon
Open the BossTalk menu.

You can also use slash commands:

/bta — Open the BossTalk menu
/bta <ID> — Play a specific quote by its ID
/bta random — Play a random quote
/bta search <phrase> — Search boss quotes

Favourites

Right-click a quote to add it to Favourites.

You can also right-click an entire boss to favourite all of their quotes at once.

Events

BossTalk can automatically play quotes when certain things happen in-game.

Assign one or more quote IDs to an event and BossTalk will randomly select one whenever that event triggers.

Custom Spell Events can also be created using the exact spell name.

Sync

BossTalk Anniversary can communicate with other players running the addon.

When you play a quote, BossTalk sends only the quote ID. The receiving player's addon then plays the corresponding audio locally from their own game client.

Manual quotes and Event quotes have independent Send and Receive settings.

If someone gets a little too enthusiastic with the soundboard, individual players or quote IDs can be added to the Ignore / Blacklist menu.

Chat Output

BossTalk is primarily an audio addon.

Sending quotes to /say, /yell, /party, /raid, /guild or other supported channels is completely optional and disabled by default.

A separate local chat notification can display information such as:

BTA: [#44] Illidan Stormrage: You are not prepared!

This local notification can also be disabled in Options.

Please note I'm not a coder. I vibecoded this addon entirely because I loved using it in the original WotLK and wanted to bring it back to life. I tested it thoroughly and corrected all the AI mistakes from the user perspective, although the code might be (and probably is) spaghetti-sh. It's my first project of this type.

The Anniversary version replaces the obsolete addon framework and legacy sound paths with a new UI, current API handling, FileDataID-based playback, modern SavedVariables, rebuilt Events, Favourites, Search, Sync and blacklist systems.

The original numeric BossTalk quote IDs have been preserved wherever possible.

Compatibility

BossTalk Anniversary 1.0.0 is designed and tested for the World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary client.

Wrath of the Lich King quote data is being prepared for future use but is not exposed in the current release.

Feedback & Bug Reports

If you find an incorrect quote, wrong boss assignment, silent sound, UI issue or other bug, please report it through the CurseForge project page.

Including the quote ID in your report makes database issues much easier to track down.

World of Warcraft, its characters, names and audio are property of Blizzard Entertainment.

BossTalk Anniversary does not redistribute World of Warcraft boss audio files. Audio playback references files already present in the player's game client.
