BindPad for WoW Forever
Originally created by Tageshi. Re-released for World of Warcraft: Forever by leehmanQQ.
This is a fork of the original BindPad, updated to run on the WoW Forever client. All credit for the addon goes to Tageshi and the BindPad team. Please report problems with this version on GitHub, not to the original authors.
What is BindPad?
BindPad lets you bind keys to spells, items and macros without placing them on your action bars. Drag anything into one of its slots, click the slot, and press a key.
Features
- Bind keys to spells, items, macros, mounts, battle pets and equipment sets without using an action bar slot.
- Spell ranks: bind a specific rank of a spell without writing a macro.
- BindPad Macros: as many virtual macros as you like, without using Blizzard's limited macro slots.
- General slots shared by all your characters, plus three tabs of Character Specific slots.
- Profiles that follow your talent group and switch automatically when you change specs.
- Shows BindPad hotkeys on your action bars and in tooltips.
- A native WoW Forever look: the same window, tabs, menus and action button art as the game's own panels.
Getting started
- Type
/bindpador/bpto open BindPad. You can also open it from the minimap's addon compartment menu, or bind a key toToggle BindPadin Blizzard's key bindings menu. - Open your spellbook, bags or macros. The Spellbook, Macros and Bags buttons at the bottom of the BindPad window open them too.
- Drag a spell, item or macro onto an empty BindPad slot. If your action bars are locked, hold
Shiftwhile dragging from them. - Click the slot. A window asking you to
Press a key to bindappears. - Press the key you want to use, then click
Exit.
To move an icon, drag it to another slot. To remove it, drag it out of its slot and right-click to clear it from your cursor.
Removing an icon does not remove its key binding. To unbind a key, click the icon and press Unbind in the key binding window, or bind the key to something else.
Spell ranks
On WoW Forever, casting a spell by name always casts your highest rank. BindPad can bind a specific rank instead:
- Drag a lower rank out of the spellbook (turn on Show all spell ranks in the spellbook's settings) and its slot keeps casting exactly that rank.
- Or right-click any spell slot and pick a rank from the menu. Your key binding moves along with it.
- Pick Highest Rank to go back to always casting your newest rank, even after you learn more.
A slot pinned to a rank shows a small gold R1, R2, … in its corner, and its tooltip says which rank it casts.
Tabs
Slot tabs
The tabs at the top of the BindPad window hold different sets of slots:
- General: shared by all your characters and all talent specs.
- Character Specific: only for the current character and talent spec.
- 2 and 3: extra character-specific tabs that work the same way.
The character-specific tabs need Blizzard's Character Specific Key Bindings option. BindPad asks to turn it on the first time you open one of those tabs, and you can also toggle it in BindPad's options.
Profile tabs
The tabs on the right side of the BindPad window are profiles. Each profile has its own character-specific slots and shows the icon of the talent tree it belongs to.
Click a profile tab to switch profiles. BindPad remembers which profile you used with each talent spec and switches back automatically when you change specs. If you use the same profile for both specs, nothing changes when you switch.
General slots don't change when you switch profiles, because they are shared by every character and every spec. If you switch profiles while the General tab is open, BindPad jumps to that profile's character-specific tab.
BindPad Macros
BindPad Macros are virtual macros that live inside BindPad. You can make as many as you like, and they don't use any of the slots in Blizzard's macro panel.
- Click the + in an empty slot to create a new BindPad Macro.
- Right-click a spell, item or macro slot and choose Convert to BindPad Macro. BindPad asks you to confirm first.
- Right-click a BindPad Macro to edit it. Test runs it without leaving the editor.
- Left-click a BindPad Macro to set its key binding, like any other slot.
BindPad Macros only exist inside the BindPad window. You can move them between BindPad slots, but you can't drop them onto action bars.
Options
Click the arrow button in the top right corner of the BindPad window:
- Character Specific Key Bindings: turns Blizzard's per-character key bindings on or off.
- Save All Keys: saves and restores all of Blizzard's key bindings separately for each profile.
- Show Hotkeys: shows BindPad key bindings on your action bar buttons and in tooltips.
In the key binding window of a General slot, For all characters carries that key binding over to your other characters.
Slash commands
/bp: open or close BindPad/bp list: list the character profiles BindPad has saved/bp delete Realm_Character: delete another character's profiles/bp copyfrom Realm_Character: copy another character's profiles to the current character
FAQ
Can I switch profiles in combat, or when I change stance?
No. If you want different abilities on the same key depending on your stance or form, use a macro with stance conditions instead.
Warrior example: /cast [stance:1/2] Berserker Stance; [stance:3] Intercept
Here [stance:1/2] means Battle Stance or Defensive Stance, and [stance:3] means Berserker Stance. This works for every class with stances or forms. For Rogues, [stance:1] is Stealth and [stance:0] is not stealthed.
Druid example: /cast [stance:1] Bash; [nostance] Healing Touch
Druid forms: [nostance] = Caster, [stance:1] = Bear, [stance:2] = Aquatic, [stance:3] = Cat, [stance:4] = Travel, [stance:5] = Moonkin (if talented).
Can I use a lower spell rank in a macro?
/cast Spell(Rank 1) still casts your highest rank on WoW Forever. Pin the rank on a BindPad slot instead, or convert a pinned slot into a BindPad Macro: BindPad writes a /click BindPadRank line that casts exactly that rank.
For addon and macro authors
BindPad binds keys with the standard key binding API. Each slot is a click on one of BindPad's hidden secure buttons, so its binding command looks like this:
CLICK BindPadKey:SPELL Frostbolt
CLICK BindPadKey:SPELL Frostbolt(Rank 1)
CLICK BindPadKey:ITEM Hearthstone
CLICK BindPadKey:MACRO MyMacro
CLICK BindPadMacro:MyBindPadMacro
Use these with the usual functions, for example to find or change a slot's key:
GetBindingKey("CLICK BindPadKey:SPELL Frostbolt")
SetBinding("KEY", "command")
SetBindingClick("KEY", "ButtonName", "mouseButton")
Remember to save your changes with SaveBindings(GetCurrentBindingSet()).
