AlwaysFace — simple, reliable portrait switcher

AlwaysFace lets you choose how unit portraits are displayed: Class icon, 2D portrait, or 3D model.
It’s tiny, safe, and works with the default Player / Target / Focus frames. Optional toggle to hide Blizzard’s circular ring around the portrait.

How to use

Open Game Menu → Options → AddOns → AlwaysFace

Enable addon

Choose Mode: Class / 2D / 3D

Toggle Hide Blizzard ring on/off

Or via chat:

/af class / /af 2d / /af 3d

/af on / /af off

/af next (cycle)

/af ring off (hide ring) — /af ring on (show ring)

Compatibility

Designed for Retail default unit frames.

Most UI packs should work; if your unit frames are fully custom (replace Blizzard frames), behavior depends on how they expose portrait textures.

Troubleshooting

Ring still visible? Some UI updates re-apply masks. The addon hooks the usual updates to remove them again. If a specific frame remains unaffected, please open an issue with a screenshot and your UI list.

Performance & Security

Pure Lua, very small footprint.

No taint: portrait updates are deferred if needed during combat.
