Description

Most people you group with are strangers you never see again. Allies Journal helps you change that. After a dungeon, or when someone leaves your group, you can write a note on them and keep a record of the time you spent together. From then on you see it where it matters: in Group Finder, in tooltips when you meet them in the world, on their unit frame, and in a searchable list of everyone you've played with.

Everything stays on your computer. Your notes are only ever saved in your own game files. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is shared, and nobody else can see what you wrote. This isn't a score for other people to look up. It's your own private journal of who you've played with.

My favorite part is meeting someone out in the world. Hover over them and the tooltip tells you where you remember them from: your note, and the date and place you played together. A name you'd have scrolled past becomes "oh, that healer from Wailing Caverns".

It also works in Group Finder. When you search for a group, any listing with someone from your journal gets a badge, and hovering it shows your note. That works whether they are the leader or just one of the members, so you know before you apply whether it's a group you want to be in, or one you'd rather skip. Each listing also shows where its leader currently is.

I used to add players I liked grouping with as friends. It never worked out. The friends list got huge, full of people I barely knew, and later I couldn't remember why I'd added any of them. So the notes go onto their Recent Allies entry instead. They're pinned there, not sitting in your friends list, and the addon keeps its own record of every time you played together: when, where, how long, and how the run went.

Writing a note is quick: how it was to play with them (Great to play with, Fine, Not for me), how they played (Strong, Solid, Struggled), a few quick tags, and room for whatever you want to remember. Players you marked Not for me or Struggled aren't pinned unless you turn that on.

I didn't want it to spam anyone, so the note window only opens if you were grouped with someone for a while (10 minutes by default, you can change it in the options). If it was shorter than that, you still get a line in chat with how long you were together and how long you were in combat, and a reminder that you can right-click their name to add a note.

There's also a small badge on their unit frame, and `/aj` opens the full journal, with search and filters.

It tracks dungeons one run at a time. Raids don't prompt you, because writing notes on 40 people isn't useful, but you can still add one by hand.

It's a beta and only built for the Forever client. If something breaks, leave a comment here or open an issue on GitHub: https://github.com/FredTSousa/allies-journal/issues
