-The controls should probably be disabled until an item is selected otherwise an error occurs. It's not very intuitive so I had to reload my UI a half dozen times before I managed to get an object loaded into the animator.
-Typing /hak or opening the edit screen should enable house editing mode
-View in World button causes an error when there's no frame selected
