Forge Pipes
Build an automated workshop in Valheim with copper pipes that connect storage chests, charcoal kilns, and furnaces. Supply ingredients and fuel, collect finished products, and spend less time loading machines by hand.
Stretch pipes between connections
Select a stretch pipe, click a starting port, then aim toward your destination. The preview extends and curves as you move. Click again to build the entire run as one piece, spanning 0.5–16 metres.
Connect pipes end to end for longer runs, or use tee junctions to create branches. Fixed straight pipes, vertical pipes, elbows, and dedicated connectors are also available.
Features
- Automatic transfers: Feed machines from connected chests and send finished products back into storage.
- Faster charcoal production: Kilns operate at 2× their normal speed and hold 4× their normal wood capacity.
- Bidirectional kiln connections: Supply Wood and return Coal through the same connected chest network. A separate output route takes priority when available.
- Automatic snapping: Connect pipes to machine ports, chest ports, and free pipe ends.
- Chest placement snapping: See connection points on the chest preview and snap an upright chest to a horizontal pipe endpoint.
- Floating pipe support: Pipes do not collapse without ground support. Connected chests receive structural support while attached.
- Eleven build pieces: Stretch pipes, straight and vertical pipes, elbows, tees, and four connector types.
- Copper appearance: Textured copper pipes with shaded Hammer icons and colored connector artwork.
Routing recognizes charcoal kilns, smelters, blast furnaces, and Eitr refineries. Other machines retain their normal production speeds and capacities.
Unlocking and building
Discover a Copper ingot, Wood, and a workbench to unlock the pipe recipes. Copper ore does not count. Normal creative/no-cost building bypasses remain available.
Equip the Hammer near a workbench and search for Forge pipe in the Crafting or Transport filter. Every piece—including a completed stretch pipe—costs 2 Wood + 1 Copper.
Connection guides use these colors:
| Color | Connection |
|---|---|
| Blue | Chest |
| Green | Ingredient input |
| Gray | Fuel input |
| Gold | Finished-product output |
Put materials in a connected chest, close it, and allow a few seconds for transfers to begin. Pipe-fed kilns use ordinary Wood only, protecting fine wood, core wood, and ancient bark.
Installation and multiplayer
Every player must install the same version, including the host. This is not a server-only mod.
Requires BepInExPack Valheim 5.4.2350. Built against Valheim 1.0.15 on Windows PC, with hosting through the in-game Start Server option. No Jotunn dependency is required.
- Close Valheim and back up your world and character.
- Install BepInExPack Valheim.
- Extract the mod ZIP and merge its
BepInExfolder into your Valheim directory. - Confirm the DLL is at
Valheim/BepInEx/plugins/ForgePipes/ForgePipes.dll. - Remove older duplicate copies, then launch through BepInEx or your active mod-manager profile.
Dedicated servers, other platforms, and other game versions are not confirmed supported.
Things to know
- Chests must be public, player-built, stationary containers. Personal chests, carts, boats, and dungeon containers are excluded.
- Opening a chest pauses pipe access.
- If an output chest is full or unavailable, products drop normally at the machine.
- Machines, chests, and every pipe segment must be loaded. There is no offline or unloaded-area automation.
- Pipes connect through their endpoints. Crossing the middle of a pipe does not create a junction.
- Stretch pipes do not automatically route around obstacles. Use shorter runs and junctions where needed.
- There are no item filters, ground-item collection, or direct chest-to-chest transfers.
- Removing a supporting pipe returns an attached chest to normal structural-support rules.
- The mod currently uses fixed settings rather than a configuration file.
Latest update — 0.2.1
Replaced the overly bright Hammer icons with consistently shaded copper artwork and added an explicit copper-ingot discovery requirement for every pipe recipe. Working pipe models, transfers, costs, and kiln settings remain unchanged.
Current status: beta. Fixed and stretch pipes have been confirmed working by the original tester. The latest menu artwork awaits final in-game confirmation, and comprehensive multiplayer and compatibility testing remains ongoing.
Updating or uninstalling
Update every player together with the game closed.
Before uninstalling, empty enlarged kiln queues, give floating chests ordinary support, and dismantle all Forge pipe pieces while the mod is still installed. Save and quit before removing the DLL. Loading a world without the mod can remove its custom pieces.
For bug reports, include your mod/game versions, host or client role, reproduction steps, and relevant BepInEx log excerpts. Remove personal information from logs before posting.
Forge Pipes is an unofficial Valheim mod and is not affiliated with Iron Gate.
