8 Download Options: The Files Tab ^ has versions for every difficulty with or without the Team Spawns seed and extra starting islands added. Due to the FTW seed, Classic doesn't exist for Shimmering Skies and never has. Versions prior to 1.8 were named based on the file difficulty rather than the actual difficulty added by FTW.
1.4.5 SKYBLOCK UPDATE
Skyblock is now an official seed tailored for casual players. I'm proud to have had a tiny part in the inspiration and suggestions that brought the mode to life. With that said, the challenge aspect of this map has been hamstrung thanks to resource slimes. If you're reading this, please add your eyes and words to my lengthy Terraria Forum suggestion thread: Skyblock Lives! Skyblock is Dead?
Relevant update content.
- Unbreakable Walls: A feature of the Dual Dungeons seed allows me to lock objects until certain bosses are killed. I use this feature along side…
- "Limited Renewables": A new mechanic in the game that allows certain drops like Life Crystals and Demon Altars to only drop when they don't exist in the world.
- Dungeon Point Assignment: The Old Man and Cultists spawn at a special point. If that point doesn't exist, it can be created by placing a row of 5 dungeon bricks on the surface. However, the point can NOT be moved later without an external program. Someone will certainly ignore/deny the finality of that sentence, so to clarify "It doesn't matter if you mine the dungeon bricks back up. It doesn't matter if you move them. Once the point is set, They will always spawn there unless it's changed with TEdit." With this in mind, the second island and dungeon point are deleted from Shimmering Skies.
- Team Spawns: Allow for multiple teams to have different persistent spawn points on different islands. I've placed 5 horizontally equidistant starting islands on the map. From left to right, the team colors are: Red, Green, Blue(same as White/None), Yellow, and Pink. These exist to race with your frienemies, NOT to pillage for more resources. For those who don't like this change, I've made alternative downloads without them.
Most of the useful new mechanics aren't actually tied to the new Skyblock seed so it has NOT been added to Shimmering Skies.
INTRODUCTION
Welcome to the first map based on the Shimmer transmutation mechanic in the 1.4.4 update. What that Shimmer do? Simply throw an item in and it will either be uncrafted into it's ingredients or it will be turned into a completely different item. You will want to have https://terraria.wiki.gg open.
This was my answer to: "What is the 'minimum' required to beat Terraria?' Click here for the current "Bare Minimum". What you see in the title picture is all you need for a new character to beat the game. It's surprisingly fun, flexible, and less grindy than the older minimal skyblocks. As with all current Skyblocks, almost all gameplay content is available. However, I encourage players to NOT use the Demon Altar at all until Moon Lord is already dead to keep the game interesting, but it does become available from EoC much sooner in hardmode.
For a more brutal interpretation of Skyblock, consider my Skyblock Mod.
SOFTLOCK PREVENTION
- Keep a block/platform under the spawn point at all times to avoid falling death loops.
- Don't spill the shimmer.
- Don't convert the crystal blocks all the way down to stone at the start, just because that's fewer blocks.
- Don't kill the Skeletron Prime part of Mechdusa until you have killed the other parts at least once, or have plenty of spare mechanical skulls.
TIPS
- MOST IMPORTANTLY: Despite it's simple design, this is a crazy complex puzzle map requiring extensive wiki reading and even a few tricks that aren't on the wiki yet. You WILL get stuck early on. Relax. Drop by the Discord, and ask for help.
- This map uses a "hacked" custom seed combining For The Worthy, Remix, Dual Dungeons, and parts of Zenith. Be aware of falling bombs, the inverted layers, changed loot sources, and that lava slimes are no longer the source of lava.
- Furthermore, this map uses a custom 2,000x800 block world size. FYI "Small" is 4,200x1,200.
- Probably don't play on Legendary.
- Start with the Shimmer, Remix, and Work Bench pages of the wiki open.
- Block swapping exists. You can get the clouds without spilling Shimmer.
- Work your way down through the layers as you get rope and metals to shimmer into dirt. Surface only spawns zombies and eyes. Underground spawns cavern mobs and NPCs. Cavern spawns underground and surface mobs. The central 1/6th of the Underworld spawns weak lava slimes and one useful enemy found everywhere. The rest of the Underworld spawns the usual hell mobs with a couple FTW changes.
- Plant growth and biome spread are 6x faster on the Surface. Do your farming there.
- Playing on mediumcore is not needed. It allows you to skip the earliest progression of the map, but you'll probably regret it when the invasions and boss fights start.
