Overview

Salted Egg Yolk Lava Buns are traditional Chinese pastries originating from Guangdong and are considered one of the representative “modern-style” buns in Cantonese dim sum. They are adapted from the traditional custard bun and are known for their distinctive molten filling, featuring a sweet-and-savory flavor with a soft, creamy texture.

After steaming at high temperature, the filling becomes semi-liquid. When the bun is broken open, the filling slowly flows out like molten lava, which is how the name “Liu Sha Bao” (lava bun) comes from.
