Medieval Ailments

Medieval Ailments adds eight historically inspired diseases to The Sims 4, designed specifically for medieval gameplay. Some ailments will pass with time, while others require treatment from a skilled healer.

Disease was a constant part of medieval life. A simple cough could become something far more serious, and even a healthy Sim was never entirely safe from illness.

Medieval Ailments adds eight historically inspired diseases to The Sims 4, designed specifically for medieval gameplay. Sims may become ill through everyday life, poor sanitation, or simple bad luck. Some ailments will pass with time, while others require treatment from a skilled healer.

Please note - If ailments are disabled in the Gameplay Options, the custom ailments from this mod are disabled as well.

Included Ailments

- Bilious Fever - If not treated, it will give a permanent hidden mean buff, that will make your sim a lot meaner than they used to be. This can be cured with Bitter Gall Tonic, and that will also remove the permanent buff. EA's Greanie Meanie cure, can also cure it, but won't remove the permanent buff.

- Chlorosis - can be cured with Ironleaf Draugh or EA's cure for Simoleon fever

- Dysentery - PLEASE NOTE: If you don't treat it, your sim will die. It is also contagious. Can be cured with Pilgrims Respite or EA's cure for Sonic sinuses

- Gout (Podagra) - If not treated, this will give a permanent uncomfortable pain buff. Humours Harmony Draught will cure it, and remove the permanent buff. EA's cure for Luck suck can also cure it, but won't remove the permanent buff.

- Melancholy - This one lasts 6 days instead of 3 like the others. Can be cured with Light of Spirit Elixir or EA's cure for Emotional Void.

- Saint Anthony's Fire - PLEASE NOTE: If you don't treat it, your sim will die. This can be cured with Ashen Relief Salve or EA's cure for Burning Passion

- Scurvy - PLEASE NOTE: If you don't treat it, your sim will die. This can be cured with Sailor's Restoration Draught or EA's cure for Creation impulse

- Shingles - This has a very small risk of spreading to other sims. Can be cured with Cooling Unguent or EA's cures for Gnome lure

This mod requires Get to work and Enchanted by Nature, as well as XML injector

Recommended

For the full medieval medical experience, pair this mod with Medieval Apothecary, allowing your Sims to craft remedies themselves. If you just want to be able to buy the remedies, you can use my rabbithole Apothecary mod.

Notes

NPC Sims can contract ailments, but they will only die from an illness while they are on the active lot when the timer runs out. This limitation exists because of how The Sims 4 handles off-lot Sims.

As with all my medieval mods, the goal is to create believable storytelling rather than perfectly realistic disease simulation.

Different chance presets - ONLY CHOOSE ONE

Presets

Low
Illnesses are uncommon. Best suited for players who want occasional medical storytelling with little gameplay impact.

Normal
A balanced experience. Sims will become ill from time to time without diseases becoming a constant concern.

High
Illnesses occur regularly. Remedies become an important part of everyday life, especially in larger households.

Extreme
Disease is a constant threat. Sims fall ill frequently, and keeping remedies on hand is essential if you want to stay prepared.

PLEASE NOTE - If you already have my custom ailment cures from the original Apothecary mod, you need to delete those in order for these to work. The old ones an be used, but wil not remove permanent buffs. The ones to remove are:
Banishment of the Unseen Folk
Borrowed Fortune Draught
Clearing Steam Syrup
Extract of Bitter Gall
Greeds Rest
Makers Rest
Rosewater Draught
Spirit Balm
Or if you have a newer version: EAAilmentCures
