This mod makes fires more challenging to handle for the player and more realistic: according to the stastitics, most people die in fires not by literally burning to death but rather by inhaling smoke.

The core mechanic is simple: as soon as a fire starts, no matter if your Sim had noticed it or not, an invisible 45-minutes timer is added. When it runs out, the game checks if your Sim is still inside a building, and if yes, the Sim dies by fire.

Pick ONE version:

EA Deaths: pregnant Sims, babies, infants, toddlers and pets cannot die this way.
Realistic Deaths: no restrictions apply. Animations may look a bit buggy on little children and pets, though.
1. Toddlers, infants and babies are much harder to "kill" for some reason. I've attempted to switch the death type to being whisked away in 1.1 version to combat the issue, but it still doesn't work every time for reasons I cannot understand. If it happens in your game, sorry; you might need to use cheats/MC Command Center for this.

Notes

This mod uses built-in "is inside building" check, and the game counts anything with four enclosed walls as a building. There is not really any way to check if it's the same building, though, so be careful.
Firefighters are NOT protected from this death, though it seems to take way longer for them to die this way (…not intentional on my part, but okay, sure, why not?).
Dying action from this specific mod doesn't cancel other actions, so your Sims will have time to dramatically collapse after saving a child. Unfortunately, it also means you might need to cancel some other interactions like sleeping manually.
Only one caretaker can save and carry an infant or a toddler; the choice seems to be randomized. You're supposed to be able to save pets too, but it's not always available; routing your Sim to safety and then calling a pet seems to work fine too, though. If the pet is stuck, use reset cheat and call it again.

Compatibility

This mod alters only the "roles" files (Role_Fire_Panic, Role_Fire_Save_Toddler, Role_Fire_Unaware) to add the timer and specifically death by fire (death_Fire) if you pick realistic version.

Children/Toddlers Can Die of Anything by MizoreYukii
- Incompatible ONLY with the realistic version, as it overrides death by fire. They do practically the same thing, though, except that newborns are whisked away in MizoreYukii's version.
Pregnant Aging & Death PLUS Children&Toddlers by PolarBearSims
- Incompatible ONLY with the realistic version. Same as with the previous mod, basically does the same thing.
