Captain Whitaker will always protect you from getting new ailments when he's close by (like really close, about the length of a double bed * 1.5) (requires friendship > 60). If you see this buff, you're under his protection.

This will open a Sim Picker with all sims that are nearby & at the same floor and have ailments. Pick a Sim, and Captain Whitaker will nuzzle that Sim and remove their ailments too! He'll also protect them for 3 hours even if their friendship is < 60, as long as he's close by.
