Aperture Science Test Subject Career
Congratulations.
You have been selected for a career at Aperture Science, the world's foremost provider of science, testing, and completely reasonable employment opportunities.
Your objective is simple:
Rise through the ranks. Complete increasingly dangerous tests. Earn increasingly unreasonable amounts of money. Try not to die.
If you manage to survive long enough, you may eventually achieve the highest position Aperture Science has to offer:
GLaDOS
Yes.
That GLaDOS.
You should be very proud.
We certainly are.
Mostly because replacing you would be extremely inconvenient.
The pay is quite generous. This is because we value our test subjects.
It is also because the mortality rate is slightly higher than the accounting department would prefer to discuss.
YOUR CAREER AWAITS
This mod contains one career:
Aperture Science Test Subject
That's it.
No unnecessary distractions.
No complicated management systems.
No tedious paperwork.
Just 62 carefully engineered career levels designed to recreate the experience of being an Aperture Science test subject.
You will begin as a humble new employee and gradually work your way through increasingly questionable experiments, increasingly dangerous testing procedures, increasingly absurd job titles, and increasingly obscene amounts of money.
There are 62 levels because there were simply too many moments from Portal and Portal 2 that were too perfect to leave out.
So I didn't. You're welcome.
At some point, you may begin to wonder whether the compensation is intended to attract employees or simply compensate them for the psychological damage.
Please do not ask questions you already know the answer to.
You will encounter familiar tests, familiar technology, familiar characters, and several career titles that will make your friends and family question whether you are actually employed or simply being held hostage by a large scientific corporation.
Please reassure them that everything is fine. They don't need to know about the testing.
OVERVIEW
There are NO days off.
You will be required to go to work EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.
BBBBBBZZZZZZZZZZTTTTTTTTT
There has been a minor adjustment to the testing schedule. The previous schedule was deemed "not particularly practical for a human test subject."
This was surprising. We had assumed that humans enjoyed spending nearly their entire lives at work. Apparently, you require things like sleep, food, hygiene, social interaction, and occasional exposure to natural light.
Aperture Science has therefore made several improvements. The career now begins with reasonable working hours.
This was intentional. We wanted to establish a baseline.
Then we gradually increase the workload, and vary the starting hours to observe how the continual change affects your life.
Because a fluctuating work schedule is a test unto itself.
You are the test subject.
The schedule is the test.
This is science.
We don't make the rules.
Well… technically, we do.
But that's not important.
CAREER PROGRESSION
Levels 1–6: Establishing a Baseline
Your career begins with relatively short shifts.
Most of these levels require only three hours of work per day.
We are calling this a "control group."
You may call it whatever you like.
We will not be listening.
Levels 7–12: Increased Testing
Your workday increases to four hours.
This is still considered reasonable.
Please enjoy it.
You will not be seeing much of it later.
Levels 13–18: The Testing Intensifies
Your shifts increase to five hours.
At this stage, you should begin to understand that Aperture Science considers the phrase "work-life balance" to be more of a theoretical concept than an actual policy.
Levels 19–26: Serious Science
Your shifts increase again to six hours.
You are now sufficiently experienced to be trusted with more dangerous tests.
We have also determined that you are sufficiently expendable to be trusted with more dangerous tests.
These two things are completely unrelated.
Probably.
Levels 27–30: Almost a Normal Job
Your shifts increase to seven hours.
At this point, you may be wondering why Aperture Science is beginning to resemble an ordinary workplace.
Please remain calm.
This is temporary.
Levels 31–55: Full-Time Science
Your workday is now eight hours.
Congratulations.
You have achieved what most people would consider a normal full-time job.
Unfortunately, you work for Aperture Science.
So naturally, the testing is considerably less normal.
You will still report to work every single day.
Yes.
Every day.
Test subjects do not get weekends.
Test subjects do not get holidays.
Test subjects do not get personal days.
Test subjects get science.
And apparently, eight hours of it.
AND THEN THINGS GET WORSE
You may have noticed that the workday has been steadily increasing.
This was not an accident.
It was a carefully controlled experiment.
We wanted to determine exactly how much additional work a test subject would tolerate before becoming "uncooperative."
The results have been fascinating.
Level 56: 10 hours
Level 57: 12 hours
Level 58: 14 hours
Level 59: 16 hours
Level 60: 18 hours
Level 61: 20 hours
At this point, we have successfully answered the question.
Do you know what the answer to the question is?
Did you say "20 hours"? Because it's not.
We found a way to push our test subjects even further.
Who knew?
LEVEL 62: GLaDOS
You have finally made it.
After 61 levels of testing, danger, questionable employment practices, and progressively more ridiculous amounts of money, you have achieved the ultimate promotion.
You are now: GLaDOS
Congratulations.
You have transcended the limitations of the human test subject.
You are now a powerful artificial intelligence.
There is only one small problem.
GLaDOS does not take time off… NEVER… EVER…
Therefore, your final shift begins at 9:00 PM and lasts for an entirely reasonable 22 hours. Yes. Twenty-two. You will theoretically remain at work until 7:00 PM the following day.
This is not a bug.
This is what happens when you become an artificial intelligence with no concept of work-life balance.
On the bright side, you will earn §50,000,000 per hour.
So, congratulations. You have achieved financial independence.
You have also achieved a complete inability to leave work.
That's called a promotion.
THE PAY
The compensation becomes increasingly generous as you progress.
And by "generous," I mean completely detached from economic reality.
You begin at a modest: §50 per hour
By the time you reach the final level, you will be earning: §50,000,000 PER HOUR
At that point, you should have enough money to purchase:
- several houses
- a few neighborhoods
the entire Sims economy
This is perfectly reasonable compensation for your services.
Especially considering what those services involve.
Please spend responsibly. Or don't. Your financial decisions are not part of the testing protocol. Yet.
A SMALL PIECE OF ADVICE
TIP: Put adrenal vapors in your oxygen. It'll mess with your perception of time.
Before you know it, it'll be your birthday.
I wonder if your parents will notice.
Probably not.
But don't worry.
Aperture Science remembers.
We remember everything.
Mostly.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
This mod contains only the Aperture Science Career.
There are no additional objects, worlds, lots, traits, aspirations, or other content included.
Just 62 increasingly questionable career opportunities, an escalating collection of dangerous scientific experiments, and enough money at the end to make your Sim economically indistinguishable from a small nation.
And yes, you will be required to work every day.
Because Aperture Science believes in consistency.
Well.
Consistency in requiring you to work.
The hours themselves are deliberately inconsistent.
That is science.
If I Could, I Would Make a Companion Cube for You…
Unfortunately, you would probably become emotionally attached to it.
Then I would have to incinerate it.
And then you would be upset.
So, for the sake of everyone involved, no cube.
You're welcome.
A FINAL MESSAGE FROM APERTURE SCIENCE
You have been given an opportunity to become one of the most powerful beings in the Sims universe.
All you need to do is survive 62 levels of testing.
There will be dangerous machinery.
There will be hazardous chemicals.
There will be portals.
There will be turrets.
There will be cake.
Actually, no. There will not be cake.
I lied. And you believed me.
That was your first test. You failed.
Fortunately, we have another 61.
Good luck. You will need it.
Aperture Science would like to remind you that failure is simply another form of testing.
And if you die during testing, please remain calm. There is a statistically insignificant chance that anyone will notice.
Please do not attempt to contact your family. They have already been notified.
⚠️ PLEASE CHECK YOUR GAME VERSION BEFORE INSTALLING
Congratulations.
You have located a mod.
Before installing it, there is one small matter we need to address.
Your version of The Sims 4.
Because while “Works On My Machine” is a perfectly acceptable testing methodology for people who have no intention of conducting meaningful testing, Aperture Science has determined that checking the actual game version is slightly more effective.
This mod has been tested and confirmed working with The Sims 4 version 1.121.361.1020 (Royalty & Legacy).
Versions newer than 1.121.361.1020 have not been tested.
Please do not interpret "it probably works" as a scientifically valid testing methodology. Aperture Science has conducted ONE actual test. You may wish to conduct another before assuming the results apply to a completely different version of the game.
This mod is only guaranteed to work with the game versions it was tested on.
This is important.
Game updates can and do change the game's underlying code, tuning, and systems. Consequently, a mod that worked perfectly on one version of The Sims 4 may stop working after a subsequent update.
This is not the mod being "bad." This is the game changing.
Unfortunately, your computer does not appear to understand the difference.
Aperture Science Is Not Responsible For:
- Lost or corrupted save files
- Game crashes or failure to load
- Broken households or lots
- Missing or corrupted game content
- Conflicts with other mods or custom content
- Problems caused by installing this mod on an unsupported version of The Sims 4
- Any other consequences resulting from ignoring the compatibility information provided directly above the download button
That last one is particularly important.
We included the information for a reason.
IF YOUR GAME HAS BEEN UPDATED
If your game has been updated beyond the versions listed as compatible, do not install this mod until it has been updated and tested for your current game version.
Yes, even if you are sure it will work.
Yes, even if someone in the comments says it works for them.
Yes, even if your cousin's neighbor's roommate installed it and nothing exploded.
Those are not valid testing procedures.
If you choose to use an outdated or untested version anyway, you are doing so entirely at your own risk.
Should something go catastrophically wrong, please remember:
You were warned.
ONE FINAL REMINDER
Please check the compatibility information before downloading.
The information is provided specifically so you can determine whether this mod is appropriate for your current game version.
This is a very simple test.
Step 1: Check your game version.
Step 2: Check the supported versions listed on this page.
Step 3: If they match, install the mod.
Step 4: If they do not match, don't.
You have now successfully completed the test.
There is no cake.
There was never going to be cake.
But there is a perfectly functional mod waiting for you, provided you were capable of reading the compatibility information before installing it.
Thank you for participating in Aperture Science's "Read The Warning Before Installing The Mod" testing initiative.
Your cooperation has been noted.
Your continued existence is appreciated.
For now.
If you decide to become a test subject and install the mod anyway, please report to Aperture Science whether the mod works or not so we can update the compatibility information accordingly
