WorldLedger
A survival journal that writes itself, with a picture of every big moment.
WorldLedger keeps a private ledger of your world while you play. It writes down the places you find, your firsts, your deaths, your builds and what is in your chests, and takes a small picture of each big moment. Open the book and you get a scrapbook, a map and a search box for everything you have done.
It is not a minimap and it never teleports you. It answers two questions: "where was that?" and "when did I do that?"
Getting started
- Play as normal. The ledger fills itself in.
- Press H to open it (change the key in Controls), or craft the book: 1 book, 1 compass and 1 clock, shapeless.
- Hold the book in your off hand for a small compass in the corner of the screen.
Until you open the ledger for the first time it stays quiet: no toasts and no chat, just one hint the first time something is saved.
New in 1.3.0
- Seven new firsts: first night's sleep, first pet tamed, first villager trade, first enchantment, Trial Chambers, first ancient debris and building a beacon.
- Nearest first: one click puts the closest entries on top of the list.
- Arrow keys walk through the list.
- Team ledger notes stay private, plus other fixes.
What it writes down
- Places: structures you walk into, like villages, fortresses, ancient cities and trial chambers
- Chests: chests, barrels, shulker boxes and your ender chest, with everything inside, saved when you close them
- Deaths: where you died, what got you and the items you dropped
- Firsts: from your first stone tools and first night's sleep to the Ender Dragon, the Wither and your first beacon (19 in all)
- Pets and named mobs, when you interact with them
- Builds you save yourself, with a name, a note and a status
Moments
A moment later, the game takes a small picture of each new place, first, death, build and biome. The HUD, chat and menus are left out, and taking one never makes the game wait.
Pictures stay on your computer, in worldledger/moments/ inside your game folder. They are never uploaded or sent to anyone. Turn them off with momentScreenshots in the config.
The ledger
- Your highlights open first: each entry with its picture or an icon and how far away it is, like "120 m NE".
- Filter icons switch to one kind: places, deaths, firsts, builds, pets or chests.
- The compass button sorts the list nearest first. Up and down arrows walk through it.
- Search finds anything, even any item in any chest you have opened. Type "diamond" to find the chest with your diamonds. Shortcuts like
@death,#nether,-wordanda | bwork too. - Pin an entry and the off-hand compass points to it.
- Stamp it (star, heart, home, flag, danger, mine, treasure or mystery), write a note, or give it your own name.
- The More menu copies a
/tpcommand or a Xaero's Minimap or JourneyMap waypoint, sends the entry to a friend, or deletes it. Neither minimap mod is needed.
Atlas, Scrapbook and Collection
- Atlas: a hand-drawn map of your own entries around you. Drag it, zoom it and click a mark to see it.
- Scrapbook: all your moment pictures, newest first. Click one to jump to its entry.
- Collection log: biomes, structure types, dimensions, mobs defeated and firsts, each with a progress bar. Modded and datapack biomes and structures count too.
- Rumours: now and then you hear about a structure type you have not found yet, with a rough direction and distance. Rumours never load chunks.
Death recap and stats
- After you respawn, a toast tells you what got you and a [Mark grave] link pins your death so the compass leads you back.
- The Stats page shows time played, longest life, deaths, your deadliest mob, blocks mined, how far you have travelled and your recent play sessions.
Multiplayer
- Every ledger is private and saved with the world. Moment pictures stay on each player's computer.
- Send an entry to a friend from the More menu or with
/memory share <player>. They get an [Add to ledger] link that only works for them. - Team ledger (off by default, server option
teamLedger): players on the same scoreboard team see each other's places and builds, without their notes. Deaths, chests, pets and firsts are never shared. - The server checks every change a player asks for.

FAQ
Will it keep my old ledger? Yes. Ledgers from 1.0.0, 1.1.0 and 1.2.0 load as they are. 1.0.0 files are upgraded automatically, with a backup saved as memories.json.bak.
Can other players read my ledger? No. It is private unless you send an entry or your server turns on the team ledger, which only shows places and builds.
Does it work with minimaps? Yes. It has no map overlay of its own, and the More menu can copy a waypoint for Xaero's Minimap or JourneyMap.
Is it heavy on the server? No. Chests are read when you close them, structures are checked every few seconds, and rumours use maths instead of loading chunks.
