Village Standing
Villagers remember how you treat them, and they act on it.
Village Standing gives every player a standing score with the villagers of their world. Trade fairly, protect villages and take on their jobs, and you become a Friend, then Respected, then a Hero: cheaper trades, greetings, gifts and iron golems at your side. Hurt villagers and you slide to Suspect and then Outlaw: higher prices, head shakes, alarm bells, no trading at all, and the village golems come after you.
It is built to stay out of your way. Nothing shows up until you first deal with a villager, the screens are mostly pictures and numbers, and messages stay on the action bar.
Ranks
Standing runs from -100 to +100 by default. It is one score per player for the whole world, not per village.
| Rank | Standing | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Hero | +80 and up | Everything Respected gets, plus the odd gift from villagers and a golem you can call with a bell |
| Respected | +50 to +79 | Trades 30% cheaper. Iron golems escort you now and then and fight monsters that attack you |
| Friend | +10 to +49 | Trades 15% cheaper. Villagers look at you and greet you |
| Neutral | -9 to +9 | Normal prices |
| Suspect | -49 to -10 | Prices 25% higher. Villagers shake their heads and back away |
| Outlaw | -50 and below | Villagers refuse to trade and may ring the village bell. Village iron golems attack you |
- Price changes stack with vanilla discounts from curing villagers and Hero of the Village.
- Your rank shows before your name in chat and in the player list. This is done on the server, so players without the mod see it too.
- Reaching Friend, Respected or Hero: nearby villagers turn and cheer, and a toast shows your new crest.
- Dropping to Suspect or Outlaw: the same toast warns you, so it is never a surprise at the next trade.
What changes your standing
Raise it
- Trading with villagers: +1 per trade (up to 5 per villager and 20 a day, fewer points for repeat trades)
- Killing a monster that is attacking villagers: +2 (up to 20 a day)
- Curing a zombie villager: +15
- Winning a raid after killing at least 2 raiders: +15
- Ringing a village bell during a raid: +2
- Bounty board jobs and the full board bonus: +2 to +12
Lower it
- Hurting a villager: -3, killing one: -15
- Hurting an iron golem: -5, killing one: -15
- Hurting another player's pet, or a name-tagged animal, near villagers: -10
- Breaking a bell near villagers: -8
Recover
- A negative standing heals by 1 point every 5 minutes while you stay out of trouble.
- The Fruit of Absolution sets a negative standing back to Neutral.
- Outlaws get a penance at the bounty board (see below).
Every number here is a server setting, and the standing screen always shows your server's real numbers.
Bounty board
Craft a Bounty Board (3 paper on top, an emerald in the middle, 4 planks around it) and place it near villagers.
- Daily jobs: 3 jobs a day, just for you. Bring 16 bread, 8 pumpkins or 10 leather, keep watch against zombies at night, clear monsters near the board, breed animals for the pens, have a busy market day, cure a zombie villager or help win a raid.
- Pinned notices: each job is a notice with an item icon, a count, the reward and one button. Accept it, do it, hand it in or claim it.
- Job tracker: jobs you have taken show in a small strip under your standing plaque, with your progress or a tick when they are ready.
- Swap: once a day, swap one job you don't want for another.
- Full board bonus: finish every job in a day for +2 standing. Each day in a row adds 1, up to +5.
- Weekly contract: one bigger gold notice a week (24 iron for the smithy, a 30 monster patrol, two cures…) for 8 to 12 standing and 4 to 8 emeralds.
- New jobs clock: the board shows how long until the next set of jobs.
- Emerald rewards are always below what the items would cost from villagers, so there is nothing to farm.
Penance for Outlaws
Being an Outlaw is not a dead end. You get 5 penance steps at the bounty board: an offering of bread, standing guard against monsters, paying reparations in emeralds, curing a zombie villager and bringing iron for the village guard. Each step gives back 12 to 15 standing, up to Neutral.
Iron golems
- Respected players are sometimes escorted by a nearby golem for a short while.
- At Respected, golems attack monsters that are fighting you.
- Heroes can sneak and ring a village bell to call a golem that follows them for 3 minutes (10 minute cooldown).
- Outlaws are hunted by village golems. Golems that players build stay out of it, as in vanilla.
Fruit of Absolution
A quick way back for Outlaws. Eating it sets a negative standing to Neutral (0) and calls off angry golems nearby.
- Master Clerics and Librarians sell it for an emerald and an apple.
- Or craft it: a golden apple with an emerald on each side.

FAQ
Does it use vanilla villager reputation? No. It keeps its own score per player. Its prices stack on top of vanilla gossip discounts, such as the one for curing a villager.
Is it per village? No. One standing per player for the whole world.
Does it work with mods that add villagers? Villagers from mods that extend the vanilla villager count as villagers. With Minecraft Comes Alive (MCA) installed, trading opened from the MCA menu is also closed for Outlaws (not yet tested with MCA itself).
Can I turn parts of it off? Yes. Prices, golem behaviour, villager reactions, the bounty board, weekly contracts, penance, rank tags, outlaw bounties and the rank toasts each have their own switch.
