Description

KeyItemDrop allows selected Key Items to be dropped through Palworld's normal inventory interface.

Pick up an allowed Key Item, drag it onto the existing Drop area, and Palworld performs its normal server-authoritative drop operation. The item is removed by the server and created as a replicated world item that other players can pick up.

The mod does not manually delete items, spawn duplicate items, or modify save data directly.

Only Item IDs listed in allowed_items.json can use the custom drop path. All other Key Items remain blocked by default.

Installation Instructions

Back up your Palworld save before installing or testing any inventory-related mod.
Install UE4SS for Palworld. KeyItemDrop was developed and tested with UE4SS 3.0.1.

Extract the downloaded archive into:

Fully restart the Palworld client.

The included empty enabled.txt file tells UE4SS to load KeyItemDrop automatically. You normally do not need to edit mods.txt or mods.json.

No dedicated-server installation is required in the tested setup. The dedicated server also does not need to be restarted after installing or updating the client-side Lua mod.

Updating

Fully close the Palworld client.
Replace the existing KeyItemDrop folder with the new version.
Start Palworld again.

If you have customized allowed_items.json, back it up before replacing the mod folder.

Uninstallation

Fully close Palworld and delete:

Palworld\Pal\Binaries\Win64\ue4ss\Mods\KeyItemDrop\

Alternatively, remove or rename enabled.txt to prevent UE4SS from loading the mod.

Setting KeyItemDrop : 0 in mods.txt will not disable the mod while enabled.txt remains inside the mod folder.

Usage

Open the inventory.
Select the Key Items tab.
Drag an allowed item onto the normal Drop area.
Palworld creates the item in the world using its existing server-authoritative drop system.

Palworld's normal stack-splitting controls are supported. For example, you can Shift-drag one item from a larger stack and drop exactly one.

Configuration

The allowlist is stored in:

KeyItemDrop\Scripts\allowed_items.json

The JSON file is reloaded whenever a new inventory drag begins.

After the mod has been loaded once, you can edit and save the allowlist without restarting the client. Simply grab the item again.

The file must contain valid JSON. Do not add comments or trailing commas.

If the JSON becomes invalid, the mod keeps the last valid allowlist instead of allowing unknown items.

Debug Logging

Press F9 to enable diagnostic logging.

When an item is dragged, the log displays its exact Static Item ID as DRAGGED_ITEM_ID. For a blocked item, the same line includes a ready-to-copy json_entry.

Example:

You can copy this ID into allowed_items.json.

Press F9 again to disable diagnostic logging.

Compatibility with other Palworld or UE4SS versions is not guaranteed.

After changing Lua files or updating the mod, fully restart the Palworld client.

Only the English and German versions of the vanilla Key Item warning are currently auto-dismissed. With another game language, the item may still drop successfully while the warning dialog remains visible.

Important: Always back up your save before testing newly added Key Item IDs. Some Key Items may affect progression or unlock systems and have not necessarily been tested as world drops.
