Description
Thank you for your interest in my resource pack. Unfortunately the project is no longer being maintained and no future updates are planned.
Kenchiku is a 256x resolution resource pack designed for traditional Japanese Architecture, kenchiku means "architecture". This resource pack attempts to capture the look and feel of Japanese architecture by changing the appearance of blocks to represent what is a typical example of that type of material/surface for maximum design flexibility. Each texture was carefully considered and most textures are sourced from photographs taken of Japanese temples, houses and gardens to ensure authenticity and realism while at the same time considering and reducing possible impact on normal gameplay.
Note:
- This is a specialized pack. Some blocks, such as colored wool, have been changed and deviate a lot from the default Minecraft look.
- This pack was originally intended for use on a private modded server (Feed the Beast Infinity Evolved), it has only been tested on 1.7.10.
Explanation of Blocks
Some of the blocks have been changed and now look completely different from the default Minecraft look. These blocks will be explained here:
Stone Bricks: Stone bricks have been changed to roof tiles.
Grey & Light Grey Wool: These have been changed to raked sand, as you might see in a Zen garden.
Orange & Magenta Wool: Changed to tatami mat textures, a traditional flooring material.
Light Blue, Yellow, Lime and Pink Wool: Tatami mat ends.
Wood Logs: You may notice that the "top" (and bottom) texture is the same as the side texture for jungle and spruce wood. This was necessary to meet my requirements in modded Minecraft.
Glass: Since glass is not an element found in traditional Japanese architecture, it has been replaced with an array of vertical wooden bars.
Dark Oak Planks: A lattice texture used to fill the ends of hip-and-gable roofs, see Kyoto's Nijo Castle for example.
