Description
Hearthwood 128x
A hand-painted 128x pack that turns Minecraft into a rustic medieval fantasy world.
Hearthwood redraws the whole game: blocks, items, mobs, armour, the GUI, particles and paintings. Think cottages, forges, castles and dungeons, built by craftsmen. It is not a sharper copy of vanilla.
Every texture is new art made for this pack. Nothing is copied or traced from vanilla or any other pack.
Blocks
- Every block at 128x: stone, wood, ores, metals, plants, crops, coloured blocks, redstone, the Nether and the End.
- Crafted, not moulded. Planks are pegged and nailed, stone is dressed by hand, metal blocks are riveted plates, chiseled blocks carry carvings.
- Random looks for natural blocks, so big surfaces don't repeat: dirt, grass, stone, sand, red sand, gravel, coarse dirt, leaves, planks, ores, the overworld stones, deepslate, cobbled deepslate, netherrack, blackstone, basalt, obsidian, end stone, packed and blue ice, packed mud and sandstone. The looks share their edges, so blocks still join up.
- Big, clear ore deposits that are easy to spot.
- 3D models for torches, lanterns, chains, ladders, bookshelves, barrels, the crafting table, anvils, campfires, lecterns, brewing stands, fence posts and gates, flower pots, door and trapdoor hinges, and carpets as patterned rugs.
- Animations: glinting gems in ores, flickering candles and lanterns, glowing froglights and glowstone, swaying kelp, moving water and lava, and more.
- A chunky breaking animation: the block cracks into shards and crumbles in from where you hit it.
Items and gear
- Tools and armour wear out in four steps. New, then scuffed from a quarter of their durability (dulled edges, light scratches), worn from half (nicks, scratches, first rust) and damaged when nearly broken (chips, cracks, bent or snapped tips). Swords, tools, spears, bows, crossbows, tridents, the mace, shears, elytra and every piece of armour you wear.
- Armour with its own shape per material. Leather hood and gambeson, chainmail and surcoat, iron plate, a gold morion with a plume, elven diamond, horned netherite, copper brigandine and a turtle shell helm. Armour trims follow the new shapes.
- A different leather outfit for each dye. Dye a leather piece one colour and its icon becomes a new outfit: monk, blacksmith, herald, scholar, jester, bard, courtier, brigand, plague doctor, pirate, mage, ranger, pilgrim, forester, crusader or thief. Leather horse armour too.
- Items like props from a fantasy game: potions in hand-blown flasks, leather tomes, rustic food, spawn eggs that look like their mob, hand-pressed music discs and pottery sherds.
Mobs and the world
- Mobs with character. Friendly animals are cute, hostile mobs look properly evil, and the ghasts are cute too. Villagers, illagers, golems and bosses are all redrawn.
- The whole GUI: carved wood buttons, parchment inventories, an iron hotbar, new hearts and hunger, effect icons, toasts and the title screen.
- Particles, paintings, the sun, moon and sky, and map icons.
- A smaller burning overlay, so being on fire no longer covers half your screen.
Shader support
- labPBR 1.3 normal, height and specular maps for every block, with glowing parts for lava, fire, lamps and portals.
- Use Iris (or OptiFine) with a shader pack that reads labPBR, and turn normal maps and parallax on in its settings. Without shaders the maps cost nothing.
Requirements and installing
- Minecraft 26.3 (resource pack format 97). It is not made for other versions.
- No mods needed. Iris or OptiFine plus a labPBR shader pack are optional, only for the shader maps.
- 128x needs a little more memory than vanilla. If the game stutters, give it 4 GB or more.
- Download the zip. Don't unzip it.
- In Minecraft, open Options, then Resource Packs, then Open Pack Folder, and put the zip in that folder.
- Move Hearthwood to the right-hand list and click Done.
FAQ
When does a tool change its look? At 25 %, 50 % and 85 % of its durability used. Press F3 + H to see the durability in the tooltip.
Why does my worn leather armour look like plain tinted leather? The outfits show on the item icons. Leather worn by a player is one tinted texture in Minecraft, so it can't change per colour without a mod. Mixed dye colours show a hunter's outfit.
What happened to the default skins? The default player skins (the ones you get without your own skin) are nine medieval characters. Your own skin is not affected.
Is anything left as vanilla? Fonts, colour maps, trim palettes, the title panorama and the Mojang logo.
