I had both problems. So I decided to make a texture pack that fixes such problems!
Easy Crops - Now, when your crops are ready to be harvested, they have stationary green particles
Easy Nether Wart - when your nether wart is ready to be harvested, it has a golden outline
Easy Ancient Debris - The Anciet Debris now has a lava-style outline, making it easier to spot
