Description
This project is an independent work based on the Mellow Shader project, focused on pushing its optimization and performance even further while preserving the visual quality and atmosphere that make Mellow Shader so enjoyable.
I started this project because I genuinely love Mellow Shader and the effort that has already gone into making it one of the better performing shaders available. However, my own PC is not very powerful, and even well optimized shaders can become difficult to run when trying to maintain a smooth and consistent framerate. Instead of simply lowering the visual quality or giving up on using shaders, I wanted to explore how much further the performance could be pushed.
The main goal is to identify unnecessary performance costs, optimize demanding shader operations, reduce rendering overhead, and improve the balance between visual quality and performance. Through independent experimentation and optimization, the project aims to achieve an additional performance improvement of up to approximately 33%, while also introducing new features and visual enhancements where possible.
The philosophy behind this project is simple: players with weaker hardware should not have to completely sacrifice the Minecraft experience they enjoy just because their PC cannot handle demanding shaders. I want to make a shader that feels beautiful and modern while remaining accessible to people who are playing on lower end or older hardware.
This is not intended to replace the original Mellow Shader, but rather to build upon the ideas that inspired me. My goal is to learn from the existing project, experiment with new optimization techniques, improve performance wherever possible, and create an experience that gives players more freedom to enjoy shaders, even on hardware that normally struggles with them.
Ultimately, this project comes from a genuine appreciation for Mellow Shader and a desire to push its optimization philosophy even further: better performance, useful new features, and the best possible visual experience for the hardware available.
