Firmament 0.4.0
What's new
The Nether, rebuilt. Every Nether biome now has its own air and light, the lava sea glows and lights the smoke above it, and light sources glow where they really do. The weather fixes of 0.3.3, which was never published, come with it.
New
- Five biomes, five moods: warm red smoke over the Nether wastes, deep crimson in crimson forests, violet air around warped forests, a cold blue-green haze in soul sand valleys and grey ash in basalt deltas. The look changes smoothly at biome borders, and biomes from other mods get smoke in their own colour.
- Drifting smoke: banks of smoke rise and drift through the Nether, thickest just above the lava sea, where it glows orange. The end of your render distance melts into the smoke.
- Heat shimmer over the lava sea.
- Light from below: overhangs and ceilings above the lava sea glow warm.
- New Nether screen in the shader settings: Drifting smoke and Heat shimmer.
Changed
- Lava with heat: a deep red crust, orange melt and yellow-white veins that glow, with slow currents drifting across lava seas.
- Light sources: torches and lanterns glow only in the flame, glowstone and shroomlights glow all over in their own colour, Nether portals and crying obsidian glow purple, and soul fire flames stay blue.
Fixed
- White snowfall: snowflakes fall bright and white instead of as faint grey specks.
- Dry where it does not rain: snow no longer turns dark and glossy in a snowfall, and deserts stay dry while it rains somewhere else.
- Water under clouds: the sparkle of the sun on water dims under cloud shadows, and caustics fade out in a storm.
- Volumetric light off: the sky overhead stays as clear as with the option on; turning it off now only removes the light shafts.
- Held light: a torch in your hand also lights nearby smoke and particles.
Compatibility
- The same 29 Minecraft Java versions as 0.3.2: 1.18.2; 1.19, 1.19.1, 1.19.2 and 1.19.4; 1.20–1.20.6; 1.21–1.21.11; 26.1, 26.1.1, 26.1.2, 26.2 and 26.3. Tested in Minecraft 1.21.1 / NeoForge 21.1.228 / Iris 1.8.12 / Sodium 0.6.13 on the High preset.
Known issues
- After reloading chunks with F3+A, shadows of blocks outside your view appear once you look at them: Iris only builds chunks the camera sees.
Notes
- Use the Iris and Sodium builds matching your Minecraft version; 26.2 and 26.3 target the OpenGL renderer. Keep the ZIP intact, place it in
shaderpacks, select Firmament in Iris, start with High and adjust the preset for your setup. - From 0.3.0 Firmament is licensed under the MDFL 1.0; 0.1.0 to 0.2.2 stay MIT.
