XedCraft: Origins 4.0

An optimised modpack with Create 6, Aeronautics, QOL and more!

XedCraft: Origins

I originally put Origins together because I wanted a modpack that included all the things I enjoy about modded Minecraft, without going completely overboard with unnecessary mods, complicated progression or excessive grind.

If you have any issues, suggestions or questions please leave a comment here on the CurseForge page and I will do my best to get back to you ASAP!

I've taken big steps in ensuring the pack is fast and performant, my dedicated server running on Ultraservers (affiliate link) boots in 17 seconds with this pack installed!

Origins is a Create focused Vanilla+ modpack built around engineering, automation, exploration, building and generally enjoying a long term survival world with friends.

I've tried to keep the familiar Minecraft experience intact while adding plenty of new things to build, discover and experiment with. There's no particular progression path you need to follow, so you're free to play however you like.

I may develop quests in the future. :)

What's Included?

Create & Engineering:

Create 6 is the main focus of the pack, along with a good selection of addons that expand what you can build and automate, including my favourite: Create: Deco.

Create Aeronautics adds flying contraptions, airships and maybe a flying base?! While Steam 'n' Rails being a community favourite, makes building railway networks and transporting resources a lot more interesting and honestly its got incredible building blocks.

Immersive Engineering and Immersive Petroleum are also included for those who enjoy larger industrial machinery, power generation and processing. Immersive Engineering is also one of my all time favourite mods, I just had to include it.

There's plenty to work with here, whether you're building a small workshop, an enormous factory, a railway network or something completely ridiculous that probably doesn't need to exist. :)

Exploration & World Generation:

Terralith adds some fantastic terrain and biome variety while retaining the general feel of Minecraft, while somehow being incredibly fast on chunk gen (in my personal testing and experience).

I've also included YUNG's structure overhauls, Dungeons & Taverns, CTOV, Towns and Towers, Explorify and several other structure mods to make exploring more interesting and worthwhile.

Large Ore Deposits adds massive underground mineral deposits that can be discovered throughout the world. Normal ores still generate, but finding one of these enormous deposits gives you a great reason to establish a mining operation and possibly build some proper infrastructure to transport everything home. Plus I genuinely love the thrill of finding a huge ore vein when mining.

Building & MineColonies:

There's a large selection of additional building and decoration options, including Chipped, Rechiseled, Copycats+, Handcrafted, Supplementaries, Design n' Decor and Create Deco.

MineColonies is also included, along with CreateColonies and Colony Logistics, allowing players to build their own settlements and integrate aspects of colony management with Create automation.

I've tried to include plenty of different building styles without overwhelming the pack with hundreds of decorative mods.

Farming, Cooking & Survival:

Farmer's Delight and the Let's Do collection add plenty of new crops, meals, cooking equipment and farming activities.

We've also got Aquaculture for expanded fishing, alongside a few other mods that make everyday survival a little more interesting.

Spice of Life: Carrot Edition encourages players to try different foods by rewarding them with additional hearts. I've adjusted the progression so there's a good amount of variety without needing to eat practically everything available and in my opinion one of the best parts of this pack, encouraging building a farm and cooking!

Cooking and farming are worth getting involved with, but they're not mandatory progression systems. :)

Quality of Life & Storage:

I've included a good selection of convenience mods to make everyday gameplay a bit nicer.

These include Sophisticated Storage, Sophisticated Backpacks, Functional Storage, Tom's Simple Storage, Waystones, FTB Chunks, Xaero's maps and plenty of smaller inventory and building improvements.

I've also included several performance improvements and visual enhancements, with the intention of keeping the pack reasonably lightweight for the amount of content it offers.

Custom Configurations & Balancing

I've made a few adjustments to the default configurations to make certain mods more worthwhile alongside Create.

Immersive Engineering has increased power generation, increased weapon damage, improved power distribution and significantly better Garden Cloches. Cloches have 3x growth speed with reduced power, water and fertilizer requirements.

I wanted Immersive Engineering to be a genuinely useful alternative for powering and automating things, rather than something that gets overlooked.

Spice of Life: Carrot Edition has also been rebalanced, with additional hearts awarded for trying different foods. There are plenty of foods available throughout the pack (roughly 330ish), so you don't need to collect every last one to reach the maximum of 50 hearts - you only need around 220 in total unlock all hearts!

These configuration changes are included with the pack, so you don't need to make them yourself. Feel free to change them to your liking.

Create's config has also been tweaked to increase chain conveyor lengths, speed up the schematic cannon, increase vault storage size per block, increased belt length and more!

Create Automation & XedTweaks

One of the main things I wanted from Origins was the ability to automate more resources as you progress.

Create: Stam1o Tweaks is included and already adds some excellent improvements and additional Create functionality. (Thanks to Stam, we love you!)

I've also put together my own small datapack called XedTweaks to fill a few gaps that Stam1o's Tweaks doesn't cover.

XedTweaks adds additional Create processing recipes for renewable resources, including netherrack, redstone, gunpowder, diamonds, amethyst, netherite scrap and blaze powder.

One of my favourites is being able to automate netherrack production and use it as part of a redstone production line. It's a relatively simple addition, but it opens up some really interesting possibilities for larger factories.

Some recipes have low output chances or require multiple processing steps, so the intention isn't to make valuable resources free or remove the need to explore and mine.

Instead, it gives players more reasons to design production lines, expand their factories and automate resources that would otherwise require repeated manual collection.

XedTweaks is part of the intended Origins experience, rather than an optional gameplay addition.

Installing XedTweaks:

XedTweaks is distributed as a datapack and needs to be installed into your world.

For single-player worlds:

  1. Open your Minecraft world folder.
  2. Open the datapacks folder.
  3. Place the supplied XedTweaks.zip file inside without extracting it.
  4. Start your world, or use /reload if it's already running.

For dedicated servers, place the ZIP inside your server's world-name/datapacks/ folder and restart the server.

You can check that it's enabled using /datapack list enabled, and the additional processing recipes should appear in JEI. (use Netherrack as a test)

I recommend installing XedTweaks when creating your world, as the additional recipes are part of how I've balanced automation in Origins. 🙌

Recommended World Settings

I strongly recommend using Large Biomes when creating your world.

Terralith works particularly well with this setting, producing some really nice landscapes with larger areas to explore and build in. I've found it gives a good balance between interesting terrain and having enough room for bigger Create projects.

For single-player, select Large Biomes during world creation.

For dedicated servers, set the following in server.properties before generating the world:

level-type=minecraft\:large_biomes

I also recommend leaving structures enabled, since exploration and discovering interesting locations are a fairly big part of the pack.

My favourite seed for the large biome setup is: -6489917970872425602

A Few Final Notes

Origins is intended to be a fairly relaxed, long-term survival experience.

You don't need to rush through anything or get involved with every mod. You can spend your time building massive Create factories, setting up railway networks, exploring the world, managing a colony, cooking, farming or just building a nice place to live.

I've spent a fair bit of time testing and tweaking the pack, particularly around performance, world generation and making sure the different mods complement each other.

The main goal was to put together something that feels familiar, has plenty to do and gives you a reason to keep expanding your world over time.

A big thank you to all of the creators of the mods in our list, all credits to each of them.

Hope you enjoy it!

I have an addiction to making create modpacks.
