What Ever Floats Your Boat
What Ever Floats Your Boat is a vanilla+ modpack for Forge 1.20.1 built on one core belief: you choose how you play. No forced quest lines, no locked progression gates, no "go here first" hand-holding. Every mod in this pack is optional content waiting to be discovered — you decide what to engage with, when, and how deep to go.
Our Design Philosophy
My choice is for you, as the player, to adventure and play how you want with anything. I won't tell you what you have to do.
This means:
- No mandatory objectives. Every dimension, boss, and system is opt-in. Ignore half the pack and still have a complete experience.
- No artificial gating. Nothing requires you to grind Mod A before touching Mod B. Wander into Twilight Forest at day one if you want.
- Vanilla-first balance. The base game remains the foundation. Mods enhance and expand — they never replace or override how Minecraft fundamentally plays.
Features & How They Affect Your Experience
Performance & Stability
- Embeddium, ModernFix, FerriteCore, AI Improvements — You get significantly higher framerates and lower memory usage without needing OptiFine or Sodium. Older hardware runs smoothly; newer hardware gets buttery-smooth gameplay even with all 90+ mods loaded.
- Photon Shader support lets you add shader packs for cinematic lighting if you want it, but shaders are entirely optional.
Quality-of-Life (You Never Lose Time to Confusion)
- Just Enough Items (JEI) — Hover any item to instantly see its recipe or uses. No more guessing how to craft something or wondering where an ore spawns.
- Jade — Point your crosshair at any block, mob, or entity to see its name, health bar, and mod source. Removes the "what am I looking at?" confusion from heavily modded games.
- Waystones — Place warp stones at bases you've built, then teleport between them. Turns a 10-minute trek back to your diamond mine into a single click — but only if you place one.
- Nature's Compass / Explorer's Compass — Find specific biomes or structures without wandering aimlessly for hours. Useful when you want to find something fast; totally ignorable if you prefer getting lost.
- Mouse Tweaks, Carry On, Dynamic Lights — Small friction removers: drag items faster between inventories, pick up small blocks and mobs by hand, hold a torch and light your cave as you walk.
- Torchmaster — Place a beacon that permanently lights a large area so creepers stop spawning in your farm. Set it once, forget about it.
- Farmer's Delight — Adds cooking stations, knife-based food prep, and cozy farming mechanics. Makes food feel less like a chore and more like a fun side activity — but bread-and-apples survival still works fine.
New Dimensions & Exploration (All Optional)
- The Twilight Forest — A full dimension with its own biomes, bosses, and progression chain. Enter via a portal you build whenever you're ready. Completely skippable.
- The Aether — A sky dimension with floating islands, new dungeons, and unique gear. Another optional "what's up there?" adventure.
- Faerie Realm — A mystical dimension of elves and faeries, but far from the cute kind. Terrifying, mischievous fae creatures emerge every time fog rolls in, turning misty nights into something genuinely unsettling. Explore the realm and encounter beings that are anything but friendly — a dark fantasy twist on the fairy tale.
- Gaia Dimension — An additional explorable dimension with distinct aesthetics and loot, added for players who want another world to lose themselves in.
- Ad Astra — Space travel to the moon and planets. If you want a long-term goal, it's there. If not, it sits quietly in the background.
- Biomes O' Plenty, Geophilic, Tectonic, Lithostitched — World generation overhauls that make every new world look different. More biome variety, better terrain shapes, richer landscapes — visible the moment you create a world, requiring zero player action.
Mobs & Combat (Engage or Avoid)
- Alex's Mobs, Mowzie's Mobs, Sullys Mod — Dozens of new creatures across all biomes. Some are passive wildlife you'll spot while exploring; others are bosses you must actively seek out. None block your path.
- L_Ender's Cataclysm — High-difficulty bosses with complex attack patterns. Purely opt-in challenge content for players who want a skill test.
- Better Combat, playerAnimator — Overhauled melee animations and hit feedback. Sword swings feel weighty and responsive instead of the vanilla arm-swing. Changes how combat feels without changing how it works.
- Spider Overhaul, Nyf's Spiders — Spiders behave smarter and feel more threatening in caves. Makes mining trips slightly more tense without being punishing.
Horror & Atmosphere (Flavor Layer)
- From The Fog / The Man From The Fog / The One Who Watches — Herobrine-inspired ambient events: distant figures in fog, unexplained sounds, occasional sightings. These are rare, non-lethal atmospheric touches that make solo night exploration feel eerie. Disable-friendly if you don't want them.
- AmbientSounds 6 — Birds, wind, water drips, and cave echoes fill the silence. Purely auditory immersion.
Magic & Systems (Deep Dives for Those Who Want Them)
- Blood Magic — A full alchemical progression system using life essence. Complex and rewarding for players who enjoy intricate machinery — completely invisible if you never craft the starter tablet.
- Ars Elixirum — Potion-brewing expansion with new effects and ingredient interactions. Extends vanilla brewing rather than replacing it.
- Applied Energistics 2 — Digital storage network for massive item management. Endgame convenience for hoarders; irrelevant to minimalists.
- Create — Mechanical contraptions, trains, and kinetic power. A tech mod that feels physical and hands-on rather than menu-driven. Build a working flour mill or a train line if the mood strikes.
- Ancient Curses — Enchantment-style curses that add risk/reward tradeoffs to gear. Pick them up accidentally? That's part of the adventure.
Cosmetic & Collection
- Artifacts — Treasure chests scattered through structures contain trinkets with unique effects (double jump, fire immunity, etc.). Finding one is a small dopamine hit during routine exploration.
- Powerful Pottery, Curios API — Decorative pottery and extra accessory slots for personalization.
- Polly's Pets — New tameable companion animals. Whimsical, zero-pressure additions.
