Wayward Outlands

Modpack in the style of magical steampunk and dark fantasy | There is a great variety in survival and exploration | Significantly expanded player’s capabilities and game world

Description

Welcome to a world that does not forgive foolishness, but rewards curiosity

The world you’ll find yourself in is different from the one you’re used to. It is vibrant and diverse, yet it holds the mystery of an unexplored antiquity. There is no place here for fairy-tale brilliance or thoughtless heroism. Instead, you’ll encounter the impenetrable labyrinths of the scorched biomes of the Nether, the monumental void of the End’s cosmos, the endless fields and dense forests of the continents, oceans teeming with life, and deep caves full of geological wonders. The world isn’t designed to kill you, but it punishes carelessness. To anyone willing to learn, it will reveal its secrets and offer new opportunities.

Key Game Features

  • An updated, vibrant world: Biomes, animals, monsters, dungeons—everything in the world has become much more diverse and interesting to explore. New unique crafting recipes, improved progression, and a wide variety of building options await you.
  • High stability and optimization: The mod doesn’t crash and runs smoothly even on mid-range PCs, and all recommended settings are already preconfigured.
  • Versatile gameplay: You decide whether you want cozy building, world exploration, or epic battles. It all depends on how you interact with the game world.
  • A sandbox with a flexible progression path: The game now features a built-in guide to help you get settled in the world. The build also supports several different playstyles that take advantage of its various features.

Project Status

This mod is in early access and is currently being refined. This mod is an indie project created by a single developer. Currently, quests have been developed for the first few hours of gameplay, up until the journey to the Nether, but there is plenty of content beyond that as well. Full quest lines for various playstyles are still in development, but the key items associated with them and the first steps are already included in the quest book. The “Survival Basics” chapter will serve as a guide to the early game for those unfamiliar with the modpack or the mods included in it. The modpack will be supported for a long time, and content will be released as it becomes available. There are already plans for the modpack’s official release and subsequent updates.

Survival Like You’ve Never Experienced Before

  • You can’t chop down trees without an axe, or break rocks without a pickaxe. Now your first tools are a flint axe and a flint pickaxe, which have replaced their wooden counterparts.
  • The first metals are copper and tin, followed by iron. Diamonds will no longer protect you from danger—instead, you’ll need to craft steel using the heat from blazes.
  • Coal torches are now consumables. Your new best friend is the campfire. It never goes out and lets you cook food. You can also use glowing crystals, mushrooms, and the lantern on your belt.
  • Thirst, cold, heat, and broken bones are what you’ll have to live with now. You can boil water, craft weather-appropriate clothing, and treat wounds. But it never becomes routine.
  • Fire has become much more dangerous and can destroy an entire forest if not extinguished in time. It’s best to always carry a bucket of water with you.
  • At the site of your last death, you’ll always find a Holding Totem that will save your items. And if you’re playing in co-op, a friend can help you avoid death after being knocked out.

Only you decide who to be in this world

The game doesn’t force you down a single path. You can choose any playstyle, combine them, or switch between them as you play.

  • Engineer — Build machines for factories and automate resource gathering. A jetpack and a potato cannon are included.
  • Warrior — Forge melee weapons, master firearms, and explore dungeons in search of blueprints and technologies.
  • Sorcerer — create grimoires, scrolls, and potions. The better the materials, the more powerful the magic.
  • Occultist — perform rituals, imbue items with the power of souls, and uncover the secrets of the ancient alchemist.
  • Farmer — cultivate wild plants, raise animals, and prepare dishes with unique effects.
  • Architect — explore landscapes, build your dream home, and travel by train between your bases.

You don’t have to choose just one. Mix and match styles however you like.

The Quest Book—Your Personal Guide

The Quest Book will help you find your way in an unfamiliar world and introduce you to new mechanics. Currently, the book has three chapters:

  • “Survival Basics” will guide you from flint to obsidian, teach you the rules, and provide your first tools.
  • “Engineer’s Dream” is an encyclopedia of Create: from handles to steam engines and precision mechanisms.
  • “Adventure Time” is a list of exploration opportunities and items that will help you on your journeys.

All chapters and quests are visible right away. There are no hidden tasks and no mandatory quest chains. In the future, even more quests and chapters will be added to help you explore the world.

Mysteries Beyond the Known

At this point, quests cover far from all the content in the mod.

  • Landscapes: Explore the completely unfamiliar world of the Nether and the watery depths teeming with life. Venture into the End and come face-to-face with the abyss of that dimension.
  • Fauna: A multitude of animals and birds, insects, mythical predators (such as the Wendigo and the Chupacabra), as well as simply cute and harmless creatures. The world is teeming with life.
  • Structures: Enhanced vanilla dungeons, a glacial labyrinth, ancient ruins, abandoned buildings, underground catacombs, revamped villages, and mechanical outposts.
  • Bosses: A reworked Edge Dragon, as well as monsters from L’Ender’s Cataclysm and Aquamirae is waiting for their moment.
  • Comfort and Decor: New functional blocks, furniture, and decor have been added to the game. Build a home that serves as both a fortress and a work of art.
  • Cooking: Complex dishes, cooking, fermentation, new crops, your own vegetable garden, and kitchen. Here, food isn’t just about satisfying hunger—it’s part of survival and comfort.

Installation Requirements

  • Версия Minecraft: 1.20.1
  • Minecraft Version: 1.20.1
  • Mod Loader: Forge version 47.4.10
  • Allocated RAM (in the launcher settings): 6–8 GB
  • Recommended System Requirements (for a smooth gaming experience):
Processor: - Intel Core i5-12400F / AMD Ryzen 5 5600 or equivalent with 6 cores
Graphics Card: RTX 2060 / RX 5600 XT or equivalent with 8 GB VRAM
  • Recommended settings: Already pre-configured in the build
  • For devices with more video memory and cores, you can set higher settings: loading / simulation — 16 / 12 chunks, number of chunk generation threads — 6.
  • For budget PCs with limited hardware, you can reduce the number of particles displayed, decrease the rendering radius to 7 chunks, reduce the number of generation threads to 2, and lower the quality settings.
  • Shaders: These are pre-installed with all settings and can be enabled as desired. Before using shaders, make sure the game is using a dedicated graphics card.

Q&A Section

Question
Will there be any issues since the project is still in development?
Answer
No, there shouldn’t be. The build is fully playable, and all the mechanics described are already working. After entering Nezer, quest support is limited, but there’s plenty of content to explore.

Question
Is this hardcore? Won’t survival become a chore?
Answer
Strictly speaking, no. Any danger can be avoided or overcome with proper preparation. Wildlife can be dangerous, but not to the extent of a dragon flying right at your head. Survival mechanics (thirst, temperature, torches) add variety to the game, but they don’t force you to run to a stream every five minutes or constantly waste resources.

Question
Won’t the survival part drag on too long? How quickly can you complete the build?
Answer
I didn’t intentionally make crafting complicated. Many of the crafting recipes work just like in vanilla Minecraft, including smelting ore in a furnace. You can try to speedrun the mod or take your time developing your character. My personal record is 40 hours of gameplay without a single trip to the Nether.

Question
How dangerous is the world, and are there any epic battles?
Answer
The world is moderately dangerous: as long as you don’t go after large predators or light up caves, everything is under control. If you’re looking for action—grab a weapon, hunt for hostile mobs at night, venture into caves, explore dungeons, and travel through the Nether. But if you’re not careful enough, the monsters will tear you to pieces.

Question
How is the quest book organized?
Answer
The book currently has 3 different themed chapters. All quests are available from the very beginning, and none are mandatory. Quests are a guide to what’s possible, not a list of tasks to complete.

Question
Will this build be released for the latest versions of Minecraft?
Answer
No. I’m just one person, and I don’t want to frantically chase after the latest updates. Especially since some mods might not be available for certain versions or launchers. And that could create a lot more work for me than I’d like to handle.
