In the 1980s—twenty years after the moon landing—the world took another bold step and landed on Mars. Upon arrival, numerous discoveries were made.
Among them was the discovery of a strange object that resembled an egg.

Over time, many more of these objects were found; they came in various colors, yet no one knew what they signified.

Following the discovery, NATO and NASA conferred to determine how to explain the matter to the public.
After several meetings, the objects were given the public-facing name "SPAWNIES."

Their internal, classified designation remained OBJ-98.

Subsequent experiments revealed cells inside the objects; some were alive, while others were dead yet still active.
News of the existence of these so-called "undead" entities quickly spread to the public.

However, NASA denied the existence of any "undead" objects, while the EU began preparing for a potential threat; NATO remained silent.

NASA conducted further experiments but remained baffled by the cells. Eventually, in a laboratory at Area 98 (named after the object), a furious professor smashed OBJ-98 against the floor. It shattered into ten thousand fragments that vanished as if by magic, and an entity slowly began to form. The area was evacuated in a panic, and a security team was sent in after reports that nearly all the eggs—except those in the vault—had disappeared.
Nothing was ever heard, seen, or even smelled of those security teams again.

Subsequently, the number of entities in the USA surged, and the security measures implemented by the EU—such as bunkers beneath schools—proved their worth when the objects began advancing into Europe. You can find out for yourself how it turns out.
