Took The Long Way is a Minecraft adventure modpack based on a simple idea:

Minecraft is most enjoyable when you have reasons to keep exploring.

The pack adds to what Minecraft already provides instead of trying to change it into a completely new game. The Overworld, Nether, and End are enriched with new creatures, structures, environments, resources, and challenges. Combat, magic, movement, and progression have also been expanded, giving you more depth and possibilities to work with. The result is a world that feels familiar but different enough to make you curious about what lies around the next corner.

Exploration is central to Took The Long Way.

The world is filled with new places to discover and plenty of reasons to leave the safety of your base. New structures, creatures, environments, and encounters make traveling a vital part of progression rather than just something you do when searching for specific resources.

The Nether and End are also expanded with this same idea in mind. They aren’t just places you visit once to gather what you need and return home.

There should always be another reason to go back.

Especially in the End, some discoveries are better left for you to find on your own.

⚔️More ways to fight

Combat has expanded with new weapons, enemies, equipment, magic, and abilities.

Movement is part of the experience as well. Dodging, grappling, and other abilities give you more freedom in both combat and exploration, but they are skills to learn rather than ways to eliminate danger completely.

The goal is not to create a perfect build or dictate how you should play.

You have more options. You decide how to use them.

New equipment, abilities, resources, and systems gradually introduce new possibilities, allowing you to explore and fight in different ways as you progress.

You might find something that makes you much stronger.

You might discover something that seems useless until you encounter the right situation for it.

And sometimes, you might uncover something that makes you wonder:

"Why does this exist?"

There are many ways to make Minecraft faster.

You can travel faster.
You can become stronger.
You can automate more things.
You can reach the endgame sooner.

But Took The Long Way is not designed for speed.

It focuses on making the journey worthwhile.

The pack doesn’t expect you to experience every mod, collect every item, or stick to a preset checklist. You can skip things, experiment, get sidetracked, take unnecessary detours, and still enjoy a meaningful adventure.

If something in the distance grabs your attention, go check it out.

If you stumble upon a dangerous area before you’re ready, come back later.

If you discover something useful that changes your play style, build around it.

The world is meant to be explored, not checked off a list.

Took The Long Way includes various quality-of-life improvements aimed at reducing frustration while keeping what makes Minecraft’s exploration and survival meaningful.

Travel, inventory management, spawning, navigation, and other smaller systems have been tweaked to work together as part of the overall experience.

The default configuration is intentional, so playing with the pack's default settings is recommended for the intended experience.

🎨Why does this pack exist?

Minecraft has always offered players an immense amount of freedom.

You can create whatever you want, explore wherever you wish, and decide for yourself what is worth pursuing.

But after enough time, it’s easy to fall into repetitive routines:

- Visit the Nether.
- Defeat the Dragon.
- Obtain an Elytra.
- Build something.
- Start again.

Took The Long Way exists because I wanted to bring excitement back to that journey.

Not by replacing Minecraft with another game.
Not by making everything needlessly hard.
And not by cramming as much content as possible into one pack.

I wanted to enhance what makes Minecraft special.

More reasons to explore.
More things to discover.
More ways to tackle a problem.
More moments that make you pause because something caught your eye.

The pack aims to give you a world where getting distracted is a valuable part of the experience.

Sometimes, the best part of Minecraft is what you find while on your way to somewhere else.
