Fear the Night

A harsh, gritty, terrifying modpack to play alone in the dark
item image

Description

This modpack is a love letter to all those who love a real challenge! [Inspired by RLCraft]

You find yourself extremely weak, all alone, and lost.

You don't know how you got here, but you're not going to let yourself die.

You don't have any crazy goals, all you're trying to do, is survive.

Thankfully, your PDA is still intact, [REI], and will help you figure out how to make things out of essentially nothing.

You start with only 3 hearts, but you can eventually get stronger! [Health Levels]

You'll struggle to break any blocks, so you'll be forced to scavenge for small pebbles, flint, and sticks,

and some type of lashing to hold them together to make some primitive tools. [No Tree Punching]

Gravity is forgiving, so you can cut entire trees down by taking out the bottom block while crouching. [Tree Harvester]

You'll have a lot of trouble trying to sleep. You're an Insomniac

You can't sleep at all, no matter what, you've got a feeling that after 3 days, you'll start seeing things. Better hurry, only so much time. [Sleepn't]

Torches are realistic, and are crafted unlit, so you'll have to find some way to light them,

watch out, cause they'll go out if they get wet, even if they're in your inventory. [TotallyLit]

You find it awkward to swing your tools and weapons defensively, so you'll have to practice. [Better Combat]

And don't even THINK of trying to explore a cave so soon, cause they're pitch black without any light source. [True Darkness]

If you're not careful, you'll catch a freeze, stay warm with lit torches, furnaces, and campfires. [Frostiful]

You can't see very far at all, and a thick fog covers the horizon. [Fog Looks Good Now]

You may try to traverse the oceans, but beware, they're much deeper than you might remember. [Deeper Oceans]

That's the gist of the main difficulty enhancing mods. [The rest are a surprise]

Other nice mods are included, such as:

Better Nether & Better End. [Make sure to check amplified Nether in BetterX world creation options]

The entire Yung's Better Collection.

A few armor and weapon mods for some diversity in your playstyle.

Expanded storage, INMIS, and Bags of Holding, for balanced but hard to make storage.

Various Trinkets mods, such as Artifacts, Hearty Trinkets, and compatibility for the Elytra.

And some more, check REI for any recipes and items you'd want to make. [If you can't see a recipe, then it doesn't exist, such as the original wood and stone tools.]

And don't worry, I'm not a complete monster, you have the Grave mod!

You just can't check your coords, unless you have a soulbound compass, you're gonna want to have a good memory to find it, but at least your stuff won't despawn!

As nice as Xaero's map mods are, they aren't nearly as immersive as I want. No more waypoints, no big fancy map. Just Map Atlases. [Compatible with Trinkets]

You have tax free enchantment levels, and you can grind enchantments from an existing tool,

and put them on a book, letting you transfer your enchantments from one item, to another!

That way, you can upgrade your midgame items, without losing your enchantments!

Do take note, that it is very expensive to do so.

Now, I specifically designed this modpack for singleplayer, and to play in the dark. [Circumstances obviously vary]

If you want, you can definitely play this with friends, it will still be fun. [Just not as scary]

Open Parties and Claims is included, if you want to play with friends who have a habit of griefing.

Shaders are included for those who can run them, otherwise, use the lightmap resource pack included: PR Luminance.

I included some vanilla friendly resource packs, that make things look and sound nicer,

but if you want to use your own textures, you can use any others you like.

Now, performance obviously can vary from person to person. I personally, am using a Steam Deck as a PC, and it runs pretty well, even on Windows 10.

You can play this on the Steam Deck!

I recommend using 8 chunk render distance, both for performance, and atmosphere.

Now, obviously, I recommend using PrismLauncher or GDLauncher to run this modpack,

you can even download this modpack straight from them! [Just make sure to download the mods excluded from 3rd party support.]

Try to install a fast version of Java, I've heard that adoptium works well, but look into it.

Now, the only real rules I'd say there is, is 4 rules:

1. Don't Cheat. No gamerules, no gamemodes, no teleporting, none of that.

Even if you play with friends, It takes away from the whole point of this modpack.

Yes, it can be grindy, but it helps it last, and makes every milestone meaningful.

2. Don't turn the vanilla music on. Can't have it "ruining" the atmosphere, now, can we?

3. Have Fun

4. Don't spoil any surprises.

I have a few surprises in this modpack, and I'd hate for them to be revealed.

I didn't include Simple Voice Chat, mainly cause I never messed with it, but if you want to install it, go for it! [GDlauncher makes it easy to add mods to a modpack.]

Now that's all there really is to this pack. Make sure to check your corners, and glance over your shoulders.

And if you're one of those people that NEED a long-term goal,

then here: Kill the Wither, Kill the Ender Dragon, Kill the Warden, make an epic base, explore every biome, and venture all the way to the edge of the world. [I dare you.]

If you decide to record gameplay of this (with or without friends), or make a [spoiler free] review of this modpack, feel free to give me the link when you upload it, and I'll link it here!

If you have any compatibility issues, I can try to help, but it all seemed to work for me.

Note: Forgot to install Nyf's Quivers, download and add it if you want, I'll eventually update the modpack with it.

Added: Nyf's Quivers and Thirst mod, and removed Better Animal Models
