the walking Dead - A Modern Zombie Apocalypse

The cities have fallen. Now the streets belong to the infected, and every gunshot brings them closer. Search the ruins for guns and vehicles, gather survivors, and turn a broken shelter into a fortress. The dead won't stop. Can you keep your people alive?

The Walking Dead - A Modern Zombie Apocalypse

How long would you last in a world full of zombies?

The Walking Dead is a Minecraft 1.20.1 modpack built around modern zombie survival. You'll find abandoned cities, dangerous infected, guns, vehicles, military equipment and plenty of places worth exploring, provided you can make it back alive.

At first, your main concerns are finding food, getting decent equipment and finding somewhere safe to stay. As you progress, you can build a fortified base, recruit survivors, take on missions, manage supplies and start putting together your own settlement.

There's a lot to do, and how you approach it is up to you. You can spend your time scavenging through ruined buildings, working on vehicles, building a secure home or heading out with a group of survivors to deal with threats around the map.

Just remember that a good gun won't solve every problem. Running out of ammunition, attracting too many zombies or getting caught far from home without supplies can end a trip pretty quickly.

What's included in the modpack?

There are quite a few systems to explore. Open the sections below to learn more about them.

Zombies, mutants and zombie AI

Zombies are the main threat, but you won't be fighting the same enemies everywhere. There are different infected creatures, mutant zombies and more dangerous encounters as you explore.

The custom Set Things Up mod also changes how zombies behave. They can react to sounds like gunshots, footsteps, vehicles and certain block interactions. Some are capable of breaking through obstacles, so hiding behind a few blocks isn't always a reliable way to stay safe.

Firing your weapon in the middle of a city might deal with one zombie and attract several more. Keep an eye on your surroundings, especially when exploring alone.

Infections, injuries and survival

Food and shelter are important, but there are other things to worry about. The pack includes survival mechanics involving infections, bleeding, thirst and injuries.

You can find or prepare medical supplies such as bandages and other treatment items. Bringing the right supplies before leaving your base can save you a long trip back, or your life.

Exploring while injured or low on supplies is risky, particularly when you don't know what you'll run into.

Modern guns and combat equipment

There are plenty of weapons to choose from, including modern firearms, melee weapons, grenades and other military equipment.

Different guns and attachments give you options for close-range fights, dealing with groups of infected or protecting your base from a distance.

Ammunition is something you'll want to keep stocked. If you're planning a longer trip, it's worth checking your weapons and supplies before heading out.

You can also encounter armed survivors and hostile groups, so zombies aren't the only reason to carry a weapon.

Cars, trucks and helicopters

Travelling on foot isn't your only option. You can use cars, trucks, military vehicles, helicopters and other types of transportation to get around the world.

Vehicles are especially useful when exploring areas far from your base or bringing back large amounts of loot. They also make it easier to travel between locations with your equipment.

Depending on the vehicle and its systems, you'll need to pay attention to things like fuel, power, maintenance and available cargo space.

Having a vehicle makes travelling easier, but it's still a good idea to plan where you're going before you leave.

Garages and vehicle upgrades

The Tools TWD mod adds more ways to work with your vehicles.

You can set up garages and maintenance areas for supported vehicles, along with helicopter facilities and equipment used for repairs and upgrades.

Some vehicles support additional armor or changes to their built-in weapons. Compatible pickup trucks can also be fitted with weapons such as machine guns, rocket systems and TOW launchers.

These upgrades require the right materials and equipment, so maintaining a properly equipped vehicle takes some preparation.

Base building and defense

Finding a safe building is a good start, but eventually you'll probably want somewhere more permanent.

With Tools TWD, you can establish a settlement using the Base Terminal, manage its territory and expand the area as you progress through base upgrades.

You can build walls, watchtowers, guarded entrances, storage rooms, medical facilities and workshops. There are also defensive options such as alarms, surveillance equipment and compatible turrets.

How you build your base is up to you. A small, well-protected compound might be enough, or you can work towards a larger settlement with dedicated areas for your survivors, vehicles and supplies.

Survivors and squad management

You don't have to spend the entire game on your own.

Survivors can be found around the world, and some can be recruited through trading or rescued from hostile camps. Once they're part of your group, you can give them jobs and organize how they work around your settlement.

Available roles include guards, fighters, farmers, cooks, hunters, medics and scavengers.

The survivor management system in Tools TWD lets you work with equipment, orders, assigned work areas and supplies. You can also put together armed groups for certain activities outside your base.

Keeping a larger group supplied takes effort, but having people to help with different jobs makes a big difference.

Missions, progression and rewards

If you want something specific to work towards, there are missions you can take on throughout your playthrough.

Objectives include clearing infected areas, gathering supplies, delivering cargo, exploring locations, defending bases, dealing with hostile outposts and rescuing survivors.

Missions have different difficulty levels: Easy, Medium, Hard and Extreme. Completing them can earn experience and rewards, with additional operations becoming available as you progress.

Some jobs are manageable with basic equipment. Others are worth preparing for properly, especially if you're taking survivors with you.

Abandoned cities and exploration

There's plenty to find outside your base. The world includes abandoned buildings, ruined cities, military locations and areas occupied by hostile groups.

Tools TWD also includes locations and districts such as Ashford, Meridian, Blackwater and New Haven, with different dangers and opportunities.

Exploration is an important part of getting better equipment and finding resources. You might come across weapons, useful materials, medical supplies or other items you need back home.

Some places are worth returning to later when you have better gear and a safer way to transport everything you find.

Convoys, factions and supply transport

You'll come across more than wandering zombies while travelling.

Friendly and hostile convoys can appear with different vehicles, escorts and cargo. Depending on the situation, you might find useful transport activity or run into an armed group you would rather avoid.

Tools TWD also includes cargo and logistics systems for compatible vehicles. You can work with vehicle inventories, unloading areas and cargo transfer platforms to move supplies around your base.

These systems can be connected to storage and Create-based automation, which is particularly useful once you've started collecting larger amounts of resources.

Clinics and medical care

Medical supplies become much more important when you're looking after a group of survivors.

You can set up treatment areas, use medical beds and assign survivors to medical roles. Injured or critically wounded squad members may need help getting back to safety.

Having a clinic stocked with the necessary equipment makes it easier to deal with injuries after a difficult mission.

It's worth keeping spare medical supplies ready instead of waiting until someone needs them.

Technology, machines and automation

If you enjoy building machines and working with technology, there's room for that too.

The pack includes industrial and automation content from mods such as Create, Immersive Engineering and Mekanism.

You can use machinery to process resources, organize production, generate power and improve the way your base operates.

Combined with the storage and vehicle systems, this gives you more options for building workshops, warehouses and supply infrastructure as your settlement grows.

Food, clothing and everyday survival

Between fighting zombies and exploring cities, you'll also need to take care of everyday survival.

There are additional foods and drinks, farming and cooking options, fishing, hunting and other ways to gather resources.

You can find modern clothing, military uniforms, armor and protective equipment to use during your playthrough.

Furniture and decorative items also let you make your base feel more like a place people actually live in. You can build kitchens, sleeping areas, offices and other rooms, with some equipment using electricity.

Custom mods and in-game guide

Two of the custom mods included in the pack are Set Things Up and Tools TWD.

Set Things Up focuses on zombie behavior and configurable survival mechanics. Tools TWD brings together settlement management, survivors, missions, medical facilities, vehicle support and logistics.

There's also an in-game survival guide covering important mechanics and useful information for getting started. It includes sections on resources, vehicles, production, recruitment, settlement systems and installed mods.

Guide content is available in English and Hebrew.

How do you want to survive?

There isn't one correct way to play.

You might prefer setting up camp outside a city and slowly turning it into a secure base. You could focus on vehicles and spend most of your time travelling, scavenging and bringing resources home. Or you might want to recruit a group of survivors, improve your equipment and work through the mission system.

The pack is designed to give you different things to work on as your world develops, while keeping zombies and survival at the center of the experience.

Game information

The modpack receives updates with fixes, adjustments and additional content. Support for depends on compatibility with the mods used in the pack.
