Jeremy

There is a tree in the old world.

Not every world has one. Not every player finds him. Some walk past without knowing. Some hear the leaves before they see the trunk. Some only find him after they have already started to break.

His name is Jeremy.

No one remembers who named him. Maybe someone did. Maybe the world did. Maybe the name was carved into the bark before bark existed.

When the fog gets too close, players pray beneath his branches.

When the sky begins to move wrong, they return to his roots.

When the watcher stands at the edge of the trees, they place their hand on Jeremy and wait for morning.

Jeremy does not answer.

Jeremy listens.

The old players believed he was a checkpoint. A safe place. A mercy left behind by whatever built the world.

They were wrong.

Jeremy is not safety.

Jeremy is the reason there is still enough world left to be afraid of.

But the world is not finished ending.

Jeremy is tired.

So when you find him, pray carefully.

Do not ask him to save you unless you are willing to be remembered.

Do not sleep beneath his branches unless you are ready to dream of roots.

And if the leaves stop moving, run.

Because the world will need another tree.
