Mankind ignited the apocalypse with war, and the Reaper descended from the ashes to deliver divine retribution.

I. The Sin of War | A Cruel Beginning

The apocalypse was no natural disaster, but a sin wrought by humanity’s own hands. In the heyday of the old civilization, wars raged across the globe endlessly. Mankind fought over lands, resources and narrow beliefs, sparking a catastrophic civil war that brought the world to ruin. Artillery reduced prosperous cities to rubble, while toxic gas poisoned mountains and rivers. Fertile fields withered, towns crumbled, and countless bodies lay unburied across the land. The lingering wails of the wronged dead echoed everywhere.

Order collapsed in the chaotic era, and the bottom line of humanity was repeatedly broken. The weak were abandoned, and people even turned against one another. To gain an upper hand in the war, humanity took the maddest step of all: developing forbidden soul weapons. They recklessly tore down the boundary between life and death, capturing and extracting the spirits of the deceased to tame them as puppets for battle. The eternal cycle of life and death was utterly shattered by human greed and bigotry.

Beyond the mortal realm stood The Reaper, guardian of the order of souls. It witnessed every atrocity committed by mankind, while the grievances of innumerable ghosts slowly coalesced in the void. 

II. The Reaper's Vengeance | Judgment upon Mankind

The Reaper was once a neutral guardian that maintained the cycle of souls, staying aloof from mortal conflicts. Yet the endless slaughter and mounting resentment of the dead twisted its very being. The former warden of spirits transformed into an executioner, come to punish the sinful in the apocalypse.

Bearing the towering hatred of millions of wronged souls, it tore through dimensional barriers and descended upon the ravaged wasteland, bringing final and decisive judgment upon all humans stained with sin.

Bound by its own code, the Reaper never harms innocent survivors. Its prey is limited solely to warmongers, perpetrators of violence, and all who have blood on their hands. It wields the sacrificial daggers and soul urns crafted by humanity itself, fighting spirit with spirit and repaying violence with violence. Those who once tormented the dead are now forced to endure the same agony and despair.

Its dark scythe cuts through the smoke and mist, severing not just flesh and blood, but also the greed, selfishness and deep-seated hatred festering in human hearts. Whenever the Reaper appears, its funeral dirge resounds across the wilderness. It is no battle hymn of conquest, but a lament woven from the cries of countless spirits — an unarguable doomsday judgment upon the guilty. 

III. The Truth of the Apocalypse | The Price of War

Barren wastelands, mutated zombies, depleted resources, betrayal among people... All despair and suffering in this world are not acts of heaven, but eternal aftershocks of that cataclysmic war.

Every mouthful of food fought over by survivors stands as proof that humanity cast aside its conscience when civilization fell. Every mutated zombie you slay is a wronged soul that perished on the battlefield, doomed to never rest in peace. Every weapon you hold is soaked with the blood of your own kind.

Some power-hungry survivors attempt to perform forbidden rituals to summon the Reaper, seeking to slay it and seize supreme power. They never understand: from the moment the ritual begins, they awaken not an external calamity, but the bitter fruit of their own deeds.

The Reaper is not the destroyer of the apocalypse. It is merely the final force of balance and reckoning born from a broken world, after human brutality reached its peak. 

IV. Epilogue: True Radiance | The End of Hatred

In the wasteland, brute force is never an everlasting solution. Endless infighting and slaughter will only erase what remains of civilization.

To calm the Reaper’s wrath and break free from the chains of the apocalypse, humanity must confront its own sins. Abandon the instinct to plunder, let go of hatred and division, and reject violence as the only way to survive. Hold fast to the last spark of humanity amid the ruins.

Radiance amid the apocalypse never means forging deadlier weapons or waging new wars. It means that after the catastrophe ends, humanity ceases internal strife and bloodshed. Rising from the silent ashes, we rebuild civilization and walk toward the light.
