Offers a kitchen sink style blend of magic and tech

The Great Funknown

A large-scale tech and magic modpack for Minecraft 1.12.1 neoforge. Refine ore through machines, alchemy or casting, power your base with a nuclear reactor, automate your farms, and bend time itself.

What is The Great Funknown?

The Great Funknown turns Minecraft survival into a long, structured journey from a wooden pickaxe to a fully automated, self-sustaining base. A quest book guides each stage of progression, and tons of mods give you several ways to approach every problem. Whether you want to be an industrial engineer, an alchemist, a blood mage or a bit of everything, there is a path to the endgame that suits you.

Features

Metals: Productive Metalworks and Theurgy

  • Productive Metalworks adds a metalworking setup for melting, alloying and casting metals, so processing ore becomes a project rather than a furnace-and-forget task.
  • Theurgy adds alchemy, where you break materials down into their alchemical components (sulfurs, salts and mercury) and recombine them. It also gives you a different route to multiplying ores.
  • What this means for you: you can process resources through standard industrial machines, through alchemy, or through casting, and each route has its own trade-offs in speed, cost and yield. Your base looks and works differently depending on which you commit to.

Farming and Fluids: Botany Pots, Botany Trees and Ranged Pumps

  • Botany Pots lets you grow crops and flowers in pots filled with soil, with hoppers feeding the output. That makes compact, fully automated farms possible with no fields.
  • Botany Trees extends the same idea to trees, so you can produce wood and saplings automatically.
  • Ranged Pumps pumps fluids over an area instead of block by block, making water, lava and other fluids much easier to collect.
  • What this means for you: food, wood and fluids stop being chores. A handful of pots and a pump can feed an entire factory.

Power: Extreme Reactors

  • Build multiblock nuclear reactors and turbines that you size yourself, fuelled by uranium-type materials and cooled to keep them stable.
  • What this means for you: power becomes a design challenge. A bigger reactor generates much more energy but needs careful fuel and cooling management, and mistakes cost you. It’s a clear step up from early generators and a real endgame power plant.

Magic: EvilCraft and Mahou Tsukai

  • EvilCraft is a darker, blood-themed magic mod. You gather blood, craft gear and machines from it, and deal with the dangers of the Evil world, such as dark gems, vengeance spirits and cursed ground.
  • Mahou Tsukai adds a spellcasting system with a magical-girl theme.
  • What this means for you: magic comes in distinct styles, so a mage-focused run feels different from a pure tech run, and both feed into the same progression.

Logistics: Logistics Networks

  • What this means for you: you can wire your base together so items and fluids reach the right machine on their own, instead of relying on hand-carrying or sprawling pipe tangles.

Time: Time in a Bottle

  • Store the time you’re not using, then spend it to speed up machines, crops and other tickable blocks.
  • What this means for you: you can accelerate slow processes when you need them. Waiting on a long crafting chain or a slow farm becomes a choice, and the stored time is a resource you manage.

Quest-Guided Progression

  • An in-game quest book with tons of quests across multiple chapters leads you from your first night to the endgame, with rewards along the way.
  • What this means for you: you always know what to work on next. Newcomers to modded Minecraft learn each mod as they reach it, and experienced players can ignore the quests and play freely.

A Sample Progression

  1. Early game: Follow the quests, set up basic ore processing and your first Botany Pots farms.
  2. Mid game: Choose how to refine metals (machines, casting or alchemy), expand into blood magic or spellcasting, and automate with Logistics Networks.
  3. Late game: Build an Extreme Reactor to power a large base, then use stored time and ranged pumping to run it flat out.
