The Forsaken Dawn III
The Forsaken Dawn III is a zombie survival pack for Minecraft 1.20.1 on Forge. You start in the wilderness with nothing. There are no structures, no loot, and no Nether. Every tool, weapon, wall and bullet is made from what you can gather, and the zombies get stronger every day until day 100.
What's in it
> 130 mods, built around Timeless and Classics Zero, Legendary Survival Overhaul, Zombie Awareness, Zombie Hardcore, The Hordes, Serene Seasons, Terralith and Tectonic.
> No structures of any kind. Villages, dungeons, cities and chests are all off.
> Only zombies spawn. Wildlife from Alex's Mobs is still around and some of it is dangerous.
> The Nether is sealed. Portals cannot be lit. Recipes that needed Nether or End items have been rewritten for overworld materials.
> Ore is half as common as vanilla, and coal, copper and redstone a quarter. Ore drops nuggets; four nuggets make an ingot or gem. Andesite can be crushed and smelted for a trickle of iron.
> 173 gun, ammo and attachment recipes rebuilt around real weapon weights. Guns cost 3-40 iron ingots. Gunpowder is flint shards and charcoal.
> Thirst, body temperature, stamina, limb damage, food spoilage and a 96-day seasonal year.
> Zombies sense sound, light and scent, including gunfire, voice chat and blood. They break dirt, wood, glass and doors, dig through stone, and smash torches. They start slower than a walk on day 1 and outrun a sprint by day 100. Hordes every 10 days, blood moons every 7.
> No tree punching. Trees fall when cut. Torches burn out. Fire spreads.
> No enchanting. Gear is repaired at the anvil with ingots or nuggets.
> First person only, truly dark nights, and finite water.
Multiplayer
> Host your world for friends through Essential. No server or port forwarding needed.
> Proximity voice chat (Simple Voice Chat). Default keys: F6 voice menu, F7 mute, Caps Lock push to talk.
> Hardcore Revival: a downed player can be revived by a teammate within two minutes. While down you cannot shoot or look around.
> Half-mined blocks keep their progress for a few seconds so another player can finish them.
> Your items stay in a corpse where you died.
Everyone joining needs the same pack version.
Difficulty
Day 1 is the easiest day you will get. Zombies hit harder, move faster and come in greater numbers every day until day 100, and drowned make the water unsafe. Expect to die to thirst, cold, or a zombie coming through the wall: stone slows them, only iron holds. Special zombie types (runners and others) are included but switched off by default; enable them in config/zombiehardcore-common.toml.
Getting started
> Pick up loose rocks and sticks. Knap flint on stone, cut grass for plant fibre, and make a flint knife and axe.
> Find water and get a fire going before dark.
> Build in stone as soon as you can. Keep lights to a minimum; zombies are drawn to them and will break them.
> Do not fight at night in the first few days.
> Plant early. Winter starts around day 70.
The day counter is in the bottom-left corner. Day 1 is the day you arrive.
Requirements
> Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge, Java 17.
> 6-8 GB of RAM allocated. More does not help.
> Shaders (Oculus) are included. Turn them off in Video Settings on weaker hardware.
Changes from The Forsaken Dawn II
> Built-in friend hosting and proximity voice chat.
> All gun recipes rebuilt. Ore reworked around nuggets.
> Only zombies, for real this time. A config error in II let other monsters through.
> Nether sealed. Spawn always in temperate lowland.
> Recommended RAM cut from 24 GB to 6-8 GB. Every mod updated. Keybind conflicts fixed.
> The pack's own rules live in one included mod, Forsaken Dawn Core.
